Mother and Stella ‘Give Beautifully’ for the Holidays

Mother and client Stella Artois released a series of spots this week that put a light twist on the sentimental holiday classic: real-life stories starring real-life people!

The campaign, which will roll out over the globe in the coming weeks, centers on a series of short films illustrating truly unexpected gifts in an effort to showcase “loss and redemption, love and community, timeless romance and artistic beauty.”

Here’s the first film, “Lights,” which coincidentally stars the owner of a Christmas tree farm:

SapientNitro Launches ‘Move You’ for Lycra

SapientNitro has launched a new brand campaign for Lycra, its first since becoming AOR for the brand.

The global campaign, entitled “Move You,” kicked off with a broadcast spot — which has 60, 30, and 15-second variations — that broke last night in Brazil. Loosely inspired by Victorian-era photographic pioneer Eadweard Muybridge, and directed by Philippe André, the spot shows a woman in different environments encompassing a typical day. She bursts into sudden dance-like movement, with a time-lapse effect creating a trail showing the freedom of movement made possible by Lycra products. It makes for a visually compelling ad which fits with the brand’s message, even if it takes a second to pick up on when first viewing.

The print campaign, shot by acclaimed photographer Rankin, employs a similar approach. Additional aspects of the campaign include “a trade-targeted website and point of sale, followed in 2015 by consumer digital, social and innovative in-store activity.” (more…)

Miller Lite Adds Celebrities to Your Crew

Three guys walk into a bar with The Hangover‘s Ken Jeong. That’s all you need, because Jeong will take care of the rest with his ridiculous facial expressions. No punchlines necessary. Give him a pig and a cabana, and he’ll deliver the goods. Even though Miller Lite makes terrible beer, their new campaign from Saatchi & Saatchi, which also features Roots/Late Night with Jimmy Fallon drummer Questlove and UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell, provides a blueprint for integrating celebrities into advertisements. It’s easy and boring to let John Krasinski do voice-over work for a Coke commercial, but with a little thought and some strong writing, you can get Ken Jeong into a cowboy costume.

Liddell may be irrelevant to the public at this point in his career, but Jeong and Questlove are recognizable and likable. Most guys would love to have either celebrity in their crew, even if it meant using the word “crew” and having to drink Miller Lite. And in some twisted way, that will probably sell more Miller Lite. But now that celebs want to hang out with regular guys, can we get James Harden to trade his friend D for Ken Jeong, setting up possibly the greatest commercial of all time? Now, that would be Miller Time.
