JNA Advertising Dreams Big for Kansas Lottery

Overland Park, Kansas agency JNA Advertising teamed up with Superlounge directing duo Jacob/Slade in a new campaign for Kansas Lottery aggressively telling viewers to “Dream Big.”

In the spot, “Big TV,” a man tells his wife he’s dreaming of a bigger TV. This causes her to morph into a drill sergeant (“Dream Sergeant”) who admonishes him to “Start dreaming like a man” and “Dream big or dream somewhere else.” The slightly bizarre character will reappear over the course of the campaign, in a handful of 30 and 15-second ads.

“The JNA team had such a great concept and a great character with the Dream Sergeant, so the question for us was ‘How can we underscore the notion that people may be imagining the Dream Sergeant, as well as serve the weird funniness of it all?’” said Kristina Slade.

“Kristina and I have been together for twelve years, so we have a long history of exchanges, a give and take that informs our ideas and work relationship,” added Enno Jacobsen. “Kristina is more strategically-minded and I’m more experienced in technique, but the shooting process is spontaneous and fluid, rather than a division of labor.”

This campaign marks the German-born duo’s first campaign in the US, following the duo’s recent work for adhesive brand Tesa. (more…)

RTO+P, Sarah Harbaugh Seek to ‘Stop Dad Pants’ for Dockers

Red Tettemer O’Connell + Partners has a new campaign for Dockers centered around a call to “Stop Dad Pants.”

The new campaign, launched in anticipation of Father’s Day, includes two new spots — “Stop Dad Pants” and “Locker Room” — approaching the dad pants dilemma from different perspectives. In “Stop Dad Pants,” Sarah Harbaugh (wife of San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, who also appears in the ad) offers a PSA-style plea to men everywhere to end the “shapeless, pleated tragedy that too many men find themselves in every day.” Sarah shares that she understands the issue, as Jim was afflicted by dad pants for years. The second half of the spot deals with how Dockers has the dad pants antidote. “Locker Room” features a similarly tongue-in-cheek, dad-humor driven motivational speech from former NFL coach Jon Gruden, who implores men to “make this dad thing look good.” Both spots end by directing viewers to Dockers.com/StopDadPants.

The campaign also features a social component, built around the #StopDadPants hashtag. Dockers fans who use the hashtag on Twitter or Instagram accompanied by photos of themselves in Dockers will be entered for a chance to win a trip to San Francisco and a pair of tickets to a 49ers game at Levi’s Stadium. Stick around for credits after the jump. continued…

Smirnoff Ice Encourages Ladies to Start ‘Straight Primpin’

Here’s a 3-minute long music video for Smirnoff Ice from director Jon Jon Augustavo. From what we can tell, it encourages young women to pre-game their nights out with a substance commonly instilled on others as punishment.

Sure, the “Bros Icing Bros” phenomenon of 2010 may have jumped the shark when Coolio got “Iced” in someone’s back yard. But for anyone between the ages of 21 and 30 who either likes playing stupid jokes or regularly finds themselves as a spectator of others’ stupid jokes, Smirnoff Ice is known as something bros make their bros chug. In fact, in 2010, Smirnoff Ice even admitted that the stupid meme helped kickstart sluggish sales of the milky white beverage. The next step? Get the ladies involved with the aid of canine Tumblr superstar Tommy Pom.

Could young women nationwide start sizzurpin’ the SmirnIce as part of their “Straight Primpin’” ritual? If you encourage widespread use of celebrity Pomeranians to get the pre-party started, anything’s possible. Download “Straight Primpin’” here and view credits after the jump.
