Mondelez International begins global creative agency review

The move by the maker of Oreo cookies, Ritz crackers, Trident gum, Cadbury chocolate and Sour Patch Kids puts a number of holding companies on notice. Mondelez has worked with a range of agencies across multiple holding companies, including Interpublic Group of Companies’ FCB and Martin Agency, WPP’s Ogilvy and Dentsu Aegis’ McGarryBowen and 360i.
“We’re constantly reviewing our practices and partnerships to ensure we’re fit for the future. With a new growth strategy and a new operating model, we’re putting digital at the center of our marketing approach and are in the early stages of evaluating our structure,” Mondelez said in a statement to Ad Age.

GRRRL Clothing, working with creative agency LO:LA, posted Instagram videos calling for an end to racism, body-related bullying, domestic violence, sexual assault and inequality. One video opens with a voiceover saying: “When we told you ‘no,’ that should have been enough. When we say ‘stop,’ you stop.” To get that message through, the women in the video leave messages behind at stop signs in downtown Los Angeles.
Walmart released a commercial about women executives who worked their way up the ranks of the company after starting out as cashiers, trainees and interns. “In 2018 alone, over 150,000 women were promoted at Walmart,” the ad says.

Stagwell eyes investment in MDC; Mark Penn could lead the holding company
Posted in: UncategorizedStagwell Group, the agency company founded by former Microsoft executive Mark Penn, is in negotiations to make a $100 million investment in MDC Partners under the terms being discussed, according to two people familiar with the talks. If the deal is finalized, Penn, known as a longtime political strategist for Hillary and Bill Clinton, is expected to lead MDC as part of the investment.
Stagwell is not expected to assume MDC if the deal closes. Instead, it is expected to get up to two board seats at MDC, which will remain as a separate publicly traded entity, according to the people familiar with negotiations.
Stagwell declined to comment.

Airbnb to buy HotelTonight in its biggest acquisition yet
Posted in: UncategorizedAirbnb has agreed to buy HotelTonight, its biggest acquisition yet, in a move to increase hotel listings on the site ahead of an eventual initial public offering for the home-sharing startup.
Airbnb declined to disclose financial terms of the deal, but a person familiar with the matter said the price is close to HotelTonight’s last private valuation. A venture capital deal two years ago valued HotelTonight at $463 million, according to PitchBook Data, a market research firm. In early 2017, Airbnb acquired Luxury Retreats for about $300 million, its largest purchase at the time.
San Francisco-based HotelTonight offers last-minute hotel bookings, seeking to tap into unused inventory largely in urban areas, and the app has been a travel-industry darling since it launched in 2010.
