WPP's Cavalry, Y&R Chicago Name Leyla Dailey Chief Creative Officer


WPP’s Cavalry and sibling agency Y&R Chicago have tapped Leyla Touma Dailey as chief creative officer for both shops, the latest in the move to combine leadership at the agencies.

Ms. Dailey comes to the post from Leo Burnett, where she was senior VP-creative director since 2014. Before that, she held creative director roles at Leo Burnett’s Arc and Publicis Groupe sibling agency Digitas. Brands she’s worked on over the years include Kellogg, Disney, Walgreen, KitchenAid, Coke, Philip Morris and MillerCoors.

In the new position, Ms. Dailey will oversee creative for both agencies, making her the third exec, along with Karl Turnbull, chief strategy officer, and and Marty Stock, CEO, whose responsibility extends to both shops.

Starz Elevates Alison Hoffman to CMO


Starz is elevating Alison Hoffman to the newly created role of chief marketing officer as the premium cable network evolves its brand to better compete with rival pay-TV providers and streaming services.

Ms. Hoffman, who previously served as exec VP-marketing, leads all the consumer and affiliate marketing for the channel. She recently ushered in a rebrand for the company, which included bringing its Encore channel lineup into the Starz fold and introducing the new tagline, “Obsessable.” She also facilitated the marketing of Starz’s direct-to-consumer app.

This comes amid significant changes at the company, which Lionsgate agreed to acquire last month for $4.4 billion.

NBC Packages 'SNL' With Primetime Programming in Upfronts, Wins Big Price Hikes


“Saturday Night Live” may air outside of primetime, but that isn’t stopping NBC Universal from seeking primetime pricing for commercials in the sketch comedy show.

The peacock is selling the 42nd season of “SNL” as part of its primetime package during the upfronts, instead of grouped with other late-night fare, where it has previously lived, according to several media buyers and people familiar with negotiations.

Advertisers aren’t balking at “SNL” hikes in the cost to reach 1,000 viewers, an industry standard known as CPMs, up as much as 20% to 40%, according to a media buyer and person familiar with the negotiations.

Jonah Hill's Brilliantly Awkward Sneaker Ad Might Be His Best Act Yet

Jonah Hill may have perfected the art of the intentionally awful ad.

The Hollywood star anchors this two-minute infomercial for London-based skateboarding brand Palace. The video—by MPC Creative and directors Lev Tanju, Stuart Bentley and Stuart Hammond—packs in as much awkward humor as possible, complete with bad dubs, cheesy green screening and batshit rambling sales pitches. 

The centerpiece is an upcoming sneaker collaboration between the shop and “some sportswear company called Reebok”—or “Ree-boke,” as Hill hilariously pronounces it.

Schick to Unleash New Superhero on Comic-Con: Robot Razor


The marketing world, and Comic-Con, have a new walkabout brand icon and superhero the Schick Hydro Robot Razor. His super powers include handing out tote bags and holding your place in line while you take a bathroom break.

While Comic-Con may seem iirritating to many, as an antidote of sorts Schick has turned the Robot Razor from its Super Bowl ad into a 7-foot-tall character who will stroll the giant comic book/sci-fi festival July 21-24 in San Diego

The effort, led by JWT, New York, with help from Edelman on PR, begins with a social-media campaign July 7. The brand is asking guys to tweet some of life’s funniest irritations with the #HydroHero hasthtag to the @SchickHydro account for a chance to win a trip to San Diego with a friend for Comic-Con — and to meet “Star Trek” star Zachary Quinto.

LG Electronics USA Appoints Horizon Media Agency of Record


LG Electronics USA has tapped Horizon Media as its agency of record for communications planning and paid media across the company’s three main U.S. divisions of home appliances, home entertainment and mobile phones.

The agency won the business following a competitive review involving at least five shops, including incumbent Mindshare, according to people with knowledge of the matter, who estimated LG’s media budget for this year in the $250 million to $300 million range.

Representatives from Mindshare were not immediately available for comment.
