We Are Social Lands Old Navy, Opens San Francisco Office

Leila_ThabetSocial media agency We Are Social announced the addition of Old Navy to its client roster, and the subsequent opening of a San Francisco office to accommodate current and prospective West Coast clients.

Leila Thabet, We Are Social’s US managing director, will initially lead the new office, splitting her time between New York and San Francisco until the agency can assemble a senior leadership team for West Coast operations. Jenn Bader, group account director, will also relocate to the San Francisco office from New York.

“We’ve experienced strong demand for social strategy and creative from leading brands, and opening the office in San Francisco is the next step in helping us meet client needs,” Thabet said in a release. “This expansion demonstrates how our approach to putting social thinking at the center of marketing resonates with brands, and why We Are Social has been successful both here and throughout our growing network of offices around the world.”

Brands Are Having Way Too Much Fun With the #FiveWordsToRuinADate Hashtag Game

Social media moves quickly, and yesterday’s trending #KissAGingerDay is today’s #FiveWordsToRuinADate.

Mere mortals have been playing the hashtag game by tweeting quips like “A salad for the lady?,” “I’m an Android user,” and “Do they have WiFi here?” But brands are also hopping on board.

Some tweets are a little predictable, and some are more clever than others, but generally it’s good, clean fun for everyone. (Except it’s Twitter, so take what I said about good and clean and fun with a grain of salt, please.)

Eu, particularmente, faço parte da galera que corre pra se divertir, pra manter a cabeça e corpo no lugar. Mas principalmente nos grandes centros urbanos, tem gente que corre muito por outros motivos. E todos os dias. E de certa forma, uma boa parte do que entendemos por “ordem” depende deles: os garis.

Como forma de agradecer e reconhecer o trabalho dessa galera, os Invisible Runners, a Mizuno resolveu presentear centenas desses profissionais que passaram a noite de Natal correndo. Uma iniciativa interessante que vai por uma linha um pouco diferente da glamurização do suor, escolhida pela maioria das marcas concorrentes.

Ao invés de promover corridas pelas ruas, eventos com DJs ou coisas do tipo, a marca abordou diretamente os coletores de lixo, pessoas que muito provavelmente não estão dispostas a gastar até mil Reais em um par de tênis. Mas claro, indiretamente impactaram / vão impactar pessoas que correm por esporte, não por trabalho. Afinal de contas, correr é legal, correr é bacana, adrenalina vicia, geração…

O designer gráfico francês Alex Zacchi criou uma animação visualmente impressionante para homenagear diversos artistas plásticos clássicos e contemporâneos.

Através da tipografia, ele usa as texturas características de cada artista e cita mestres como Roy Lichtenstein, famoso por suas obras em quadricromia inspiradas na linguagem das histórias em quadrinhos. O resultado é um vídeo fantástico, com as intrincadas texturas mostradas de A a Z (em francês).

Acxiom Revenue Chief Nada Stirratt Steps Down


Acxiom Chief Revenue Officer and Exec VP Nada Stirratt will leave the company at the end of March. Ms. Stirratt will have been with the firm just around three years since she came on board in February 2012 following stints at MySpace, MTV and AOL.

Acxiom CEO Scott Howe will take the helm of the sales team temporarily until a replacement for Ms. Stirratt is found.

She has presided over the data-services giant’s evolution under Mr. Howe away from its roots as a data broker towards offering data-centric digital marketing services. During her tenure, Acxiom inked a deal in December 2013 with one of the largest media spenders in the world, Starcom MediaVest Group, which agreed to use Acxiom’s then-young audience-targeting system, Audience Operating System.

How Pharrell Williams' Hat Inspired This Year's Grammy Awards Campaign


It was the hat seen around the world. When pop star Pharrell Williams appeared on the Grammy stage in 2014 wearing a Vivienne Westwood hat, the Twittersphere exploded. The hat got its own Twitter handle and comparisons were made to Smokey the Bear’s hat.

Then Arby’s got in on the action, demanding Mr. Williams return its hat. The conversation that ensued between Mr. Williams and the fast-food chain was just as popular (if not more so) than the actual awards show. Arby’s initial tweet received more than 80,000 retweets and nearly 50,000 favorites.

People on the Move: Cheil Names Global Chief Growth Officer

Lotta Malm Hallqvist has been named Cheil Worldwide’s first global chief growth officer. Based in London, she will lead Cheil’s international growth and new business drive. Previously, she was executive vice president and global chief growth officer at McCann Worldgroup. The new role is part of Chiel’s effort to boost global growth and business development.

Ogilvy & Mather has appointed Heather Alderson to the new role of Head of Planning Unilever Worldwide and Ogilvy & Mather Group UK. Based in London, she will head up the planning function for Unilever, with a core focus on Dove. Most recently, Ms. Alderson served as commercial strategy director and managing partner at BBH where she led a portfolio of clients including Diageo and British Airways.

Jack Rotherham has been appointed to the new role of chief marketing officer at FreeWheel. He will lead the effort to take the company to the next level by advancing FreeWheel’s message for the industry, its sales efforts and product positioning. Previously, Mr. Rotherham served as general manager-advertising at RichRelevance where he was responsible for leading and scaling advertising brand and agency partnerships.

Jim Elliott Joins Arnold as Global Chief Creative Officer

3af9623Arnold Worldwide has appointed Jim Elliott to the position of global chief creative officer. In the newly created position, Elliott will be based out of Boston, but will also travel to New York to assist Arnold’s team there.

Elliott joins the agency from Y&R New York, where he has served as chief creative officer since June of 2011, working with such clients as Virgin Atlantic, Land Rover and Dell. Prior to Y&R, Elliott spent over four years with Goodby Silverstein & Partners as a group creative director, which followed an eight year stint as a creative director and partner at Cole & Weber.

“The creation of this role is a really big part of the next part of plans here at Arnold — building our brand here in the U.S. and beyond,” Pam Hamlin, Arnold global president, told AdAge.

While Arnold did not confirm an official start date for Elliott, AdAge stated that it will be sometime this quarter.

O Apple Watch está programado para ser lançado em 2015, mas é difícil saber quando veremos o gadget no Brasil. Enquanto isso, podemos ter uma prévia de como será o relógio inteligente da Apple através do site criado pelos desenvolvedores do aplicativo Pipes.

O site foi criado apenas como uma simulação de como o app funcionará no Apple Watch, mas também dá pra ter uma ideia muito básica de como serão os aplicativos padrão do smartwatch e matar um pouco da curiosidade (ou aumentar a ansiedade pelo lançamento do gadget).
