HR MacMillan Space Centre: Venus

Vancouver’s HR MacMillan Space Centre recently launched a summer campaign with the tagline Like Nothing on Earth. The goal: to remind locals and tourists alike of the wonders of the cosmos. And, of course, drive traffic to the attraction. The radio features Christopher Gaze, of Bard on the Beach fame, and uses real sounds of space as recorded by NASA.

Translation Dives Into Summer for Champs

Translation, New York has a new campaign for Champs (for whom they are agency of record), entitled “Game Never Sleeps.”

The campaign celebrates the summer with a series of spots highlighting nocturnal sporting highjinks and a pool party rooftop dive. In the ridiculous 30 second-spot “One Giant Leap” a party-goer takes a rooftop leap into a pool. Only he realizes mid-jump that he left his prized kicks on. Somehow, he has the presence of mind to to quickly slip them off, unharmed, while also managing to make it into the pool. Other spots in the campaign are a bit more plausible, featuring nighttime games of basketball and football. Stay with us after the jump for “Let There Be Light” and “Nightglow,” along with credits. ESPN Went Two Hours Without an Ad Break After LeBron James Jilted Miami

It’s rare for TV networks to skip commercial breaks, particularly when they have big audiences tuning in, unless the news is so big that they have no choice but to continue broadcasting. For ESPN, covering LeBron James’ announcement that he is returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers was akin to calling a Presidential election — or, from the perspective of the Miami Heat, reporting on a major disaster.

ESPN went for more than two hours without breaking for commercial, from 12:21 p.m. to 2:37 p.m. ET, starting a few minutes after Mr. James’ decision became public on the Sports Illustrated website, according to iSpot.tv, a company that catalogs, tags and measures activity around TV ads in real time.

The first commercial that aired when ESPN finally did take a break was the Apple iPhone ad called “Parenthood.”
