Beef-Marketing Group Goes Big on Digital, Taps R/GA

R/GA’s Chicago office has been named the lead agency for Beef Checkoff, the program that beef farmers and ranchers contribute dollars to in order to fund marketing for the beef industry.

Publicis Groupe’s Leo Burnett had the business since 1992, and was responsible for the well-known “Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner” tagline, which came out the same year Burnett won the business and remains the tagline to this day. Leo Burnett stopped working with the group in September, and did not participate in the review.

Interpublic’s R/GA will be responsible for all creative and media planning and buying, and will be responsible for reaching older Millennial consumers through an increased focus on digital. The “Beef. It’s what’s for dinner” website already has content on it, including a number of recipes, as well as nutrient information.

Tribal NY, Friedman Part Ways

sethfriedmanSources familiar with the matter confirm that Tribal New York (which dropped the “DDB” part earlier this year) has parted ways with Seth Friedman, whose official title has been managing director partner, though his focus was strictly on leading new business efforts. From what sources say, Tribal NY doesn’t have a plan to replace Friedman, whose new biz responsibilities will now be handled by the agency’s executive team. No word yet on reasons for his departure, but Friedman had been with Tribal NY for three years, initially joining the office as head of planning before moving up to his MD/head of new biz position.

Prior to joining Tribal, Friedman spent three years as planning director at sibling DDB New York, leading strategic efforts for clients like H&R Block, Merck and P&G. During his career, the now-ex Tribal NY MD also worked on the account side at the likes of Mad Dogs & Englishmen and Deutsch.

Eristoff Vodka: Join The Pack

URL: http://www.jointhepack.be

“Join the Pack” is a live interactive Facebook app and competition for vodka brand Eristoff. 50 finalists will be howling live via a webcam to a pack of real wolves living at the UK’s foremost wolf sanctuary, the Wolf Conservation Trust located outside London. If the wolves welcome the fan into the pack by howling back at them the fan becomes an official Eristoff Night Wolf and automatically wins 4 VIP tickets to “I Love Techno” a major dance music event which takes place in Belgium the 9th of November and of which Eristoff is a partner.

Each finalist will have 60 seconds over Skype to get the real wolves howling back. From “Wouuuuu” to “Awawawaouuuu” everything goes but in the final it will be wolves to decide. The 1-2 hour event will be transmitted live online at www.jointhepack.be on 7 November 2013 at 2100 hours CET. Special night vision cameras will be installed at the Wolf Sanctuary to capture the action.

How it Works
Howling competitors can access the app at www.jointhepack.be and click on the Record Your Howl button to record a movie of their best howling and load the video directly onto the Join the Pack ranking page where other viewers can Like howls and nudge their favourite Eristoff howling wolves up the rankings. The competitive can also gather their pack of friends to go Like them too. The top 50 will be invited to howl live to the wolves in the Final.
