The case could upend a long-held practice in the film industry and other businesses that rely heavily on unpaid internships.
Random House is expanding its target audience beyond automobile commuters by looking at hobbies people could pursue while listening.
Edward Snowden’s shattering intelligence leak has the American public galvanized and riddled with outrage and excitement. This is a tipping point moment for America, and there is a sense that things could go either way. The CIA will try to have him extradited and criminalized like Bradley Manning before him. But there is another, tantalizing possibility . . . Snowden’s act of courage may inspire an army of whistleblowers to step forward one by one and kick-off an open-source revolution.
At this moment one can feel a palatable air of revolutionary resurgence in America – that same fervor that historically led to the founding of the nation is stirring again. The infringement on basic rights that the NSA leak revealed are uniting radicals and conservatives, lefties and rights, in a truly game-shifting moment of bipartisan outrage.
Ron Paul is giving applause for the 29-year-old whistleblower, “we should be thankful for individual like Snowden and Greenwald, who see injustice being carried out by their own government and speak out, despite the risk. They have done a great service to the American people by exposing the truth about what our government is doing in secret.” And even Glenn Beck is taking a more “radical-lefty” position evident in his tweet: “I think I have just read about the man for which I have waited. Earmarks of a real hero.”
However, there is another trend in America – jadedness and fear – trembling subservience, a swallowing of the War-On-Terror Kool-Aid. A survey published on The Washington Post reveals that 45% half of America accepts that the government is spying on its own citizens and they even believe the government could go further with surveillance if it means stopping future terrorist attacks.
This pivotal moment may just reveal America’s newly entrenched identity – a nation worn out and senile and bereft of its founding revolutionary spirit — a Nation of Sheep. Or . . . a still engaged nation with backbone and some of its original revolutionary spirit still intact.
Time to stand up, come out and be counted!
