Google has unveiled its first big marketing push of 2013 with a new ad that promotes its Google Play product. With a little help from Cookie Monster, the search giant gives a minute-long tutorial on how it wants to see consumers use Google Play to browse and download all kinds of media — from music to movies to books to Android Apps.
The spot was created by Boston-based Mullen. In it we see the furry blue character use Google Play to derive some inspiration for a new year’s resolution of getting fit. He selects the Rocky theme song and Olivia Newton John’s “Let’s Get Physical,” purchases British comedy film “Run, Fatboy Run” and adds calorie-counting and running apps to his phone. But the trouble comes when he hits the books section, attempting to shop for books about healthy recipes when his lifelong weakness for cookies gets the best of him. Thanks to a Martha Stewart cookie recipe book, his quest for a “new me” in 2013 is on hold for one more day.
