Posted in: UncategorizedOver the past few years Dentsu has concentrated on acquiring creative-, digital- and most recently, with its massive merger with Aegis, media-agency assets. But now it’s turned its sights to the public-relations space with the acquisition of independent PR shop Mitchell Communications Group.
“Our clients have been asking for PR and strategic communications and capabilities and we haven’t been able to provide it,” said Tim Andree, who serves as senior VP of Dentsu Inc. and president-CEO of the Dentsu Network. In recent years, he’s led the rapid expansion of the Dentsu network in regions outside of Asia with the purchase of shops such as McGarryBowen, 360i and Firstborn. He also has been working on exporting those brands outside of the U.S. to handle more global client work and was a major driver of one of the biggest deals adland has seen in recent times, the merger of Aegis and Dentsu.
“The clients have been driving what we invest in … PR is another area where we’re going to have to provide a global capability,” Mr. Andree told Ad Age.

Al-Jazeera’s Challenge: Do We Really Want Serious Cable News?
Posted in: UncategorizedCritics often complain that cable-news networks in the U.S. lack enough “real news” and carry a surplus of opinion and fluff. Now enters Al-Jazeera and its tendency toward serious reporting. But will viewers prove the critics right? And what about advertisers?
Al-Jazeera’s new presence in the U.S., enabled by its pact to take over Current TV and most of its distribution deals with cable and satellite companies, could finally prove the notion that U.S. audiences want meatier cable news. “This is the single most important game-changer in the news industry,” said Cathy Rasenberger, who helped introduce Al-Jazeera English in 2006 and has worked with the network on and off for the past three years.
The events of the Arab Spring already engendered a huge rise in interest for Al-Jazeera English, Ms. Rasenberger said. “Other news organizations didn’t have feet on the ground,” she said. “Al-Jazeera has deep resources to cover international news that domestic news organizations don’t have.”

Nike+ Hong Kong promove corrida virtual Men vs. Women com visual sci-fi
Posted in: UncategorizedA nova campanha interativa da Nike Hong Kong, MvsW, criou uma corrida virtual entre homens e mulheres, visualizada em gráficos em estilo sci-fi.
De acordo com a agência criativa por trás do projeto, Pill & Pillow, o clássico Tron funcionou como grande referência na intenção de criar gráficos que mostrassem o progresso dos dados e, ao mesmo tempo, a sensação de velocidade.
Os dados visualizados no site são alimentados pelos usuário do Nike+. Além de poder acompanhar seu desempenho e comparar suas corridas com a de outros usuários, ele participa de algo maior ao contar ponto na corrida oficial Homem vs. Mulher.
Na corrida interativa, cada categoria (distância total, tempo total, corrida mais rápida, corrida mais longa, passo média e 1K mais rápido) possui um gráfico como referência. Por exemplo, a distância é sempre mostrada em barras, enquanto os círculos representam o tempo. A animação dos dados se inicia com intensidade visual e termina de forma mais limpa e definida.
O resultado é um efeito que dá a sensação de unidade, como se todos os participantes estivessem correndo juntos em tempo real.
Não é preciso morar em Hong Kong para participar. Qualquer corredor com Nike+ pode se juntar à corrida aqui. Abaixo, um dos filmes da campanha.
