It’s not his “confident smile and kind eyes” that I care about. It’s his brain. But I guess there’s nothing more American than the right to promote tacky commemoratives through special TV offers.
UPDATE: And, uh, Biden gets one too!

Posted in: UncategorizedTarget Audience Points you to the Right Direction
Posted in: UncategorizedIf you want a good business, the best people to solicit proper direction other than your usually reliable management team would be the people endorsing your product. In this case, the world of social marketing would do well to serve the demands of their visitors, the main reason why websites are getting good hits and rankings.
Two sites come into mind. Urbanbaby.com and Facebook. Of the two, Facebook has somewhat recovered from its earlier blunder of releasing new tools to allow members to track other user’s actions on the site. A year later, Facebook introduced a service that let retailers announce a user’s activities on their websites as a form of advertising. But since then, they have redesigned and unveiled a new approach, making them one of the popular social networking sites known to man today.
On the other hand, Urbanbaby.com took a turn for the worst, mainly focusing on the advertising binge which led to their downfall. While they tried to recover from it, new sites like YouBeMom.com took over their niche.
So if you want a good tip, “Do Not Upset Your Users”. That makes all the difference in business particularly in the cyber world.

Get to Know Me First
Posted in: UncategorizedFilmmaker Gina Levy is working with GetToKnowMeFirst.org, a website that advocates for marriage equality by putting a “face on the issue” with five 30-second commercials to air during inauguration week in the United States. In an effort to overturn Proposition 8 in California and a number of other anti-gay initiatives, many of these spots will show gays and lesbians as adoptive parents and active community members.

The Red Cross and Gaming
Posted in: UncategorizedNational chapters of the Red Cross have begun experimenting with online games in order to attract younger donors and volunteers to philanthropy.
In the Netherlands, The Red Cross Game encourages online players to engage with a number of virtual public health and safety crises involving first an earthquake in Argentina and then conflict and dislocation in war-torn Zimbabwe. Players who finish these teaser games and want to tackle the next task, a flood in Mexico, need to pay $19.95 to purchase the full version of the game, which functions as both an exercise in consciousness-raising and a fund-raising maneuver. The game was created by I Sioux for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
As the “trailhead” video above shows, the British Red Cross is sponsoring Traces of Hope, an alternate reality game (or ARG) that sets up the following situation for players:
Vicious war in Northern Uganda has destroyed Joseph’s home and torn his family apart. He has one goal, to find out from the Red Cross if his mother is alive or dead.
Now he has arrived in the dangerous camp they call Hopetown, he has 24 hours to track down the Red Cross messenger and he needs you to be his guide.
He has a satellite phone, you have the web – together you’ll make a great team. Time is running out; guide Joseph through sickness, fire and violence as together you follow his traces of hope.
More information about Traces of Hope, which is sponsored by Enable Interactive, is available here.
Given these Red Cross games that rely on computational media, it is ironic that the relationship between the Red Cross and game developers has sometimes been notably strained. In one case, the head of the Canadian Red Cross sent a legalistic cease-and-desist letter to game developers who used the Red Cross logo in first-person shooter games.

This slideshow is part of a community project that the Courage Campaign launched in reaction to the legal brief that Ken Starr—on behalf of the “Yes on 8” campaign—just filed to nullify the 18,000 same-sex marriages performed in California USA between May and November of 2008.
Proposition 8 was a California ballot proposition that changed the state Constitution to restrict the definition of marriage to a union between a man and a woman and eliminated the right of same-sex couples to marry. The proposition did not affect domestic partnerships in California. The ballot measure was an amendment that would override portions of the ruling of In re Marriage Cases. The measure added a new section (7.5) to Article I, which reads:
“Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”

Claudia Schiffer Models Again!
Posted in: UncategorizedClaudia Schiffer has been precariously absent in the advertising world for quite some time now but it doesn’t mean that she has totally left it. In fact, you may be surprised to see her back again endorsing two classic brands in Dolce and Gabana and YSL.
the eternallly gorgeous Claudia Schiffer is starring in a sun-slathered series of Cruise Collection ads for Dolce & Gabbana shot by Steven Klein. She has also landed the new Yves Saint Laurent Spring ad campaign, taking over from Naomi Campbell. The YSL ads were shot in front of the legendary Hollywood sign by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Meanwhile Claudia is also re-upping as the face of Salvatore Ferragamo.
So who says that Claudia has been overwhelmed by the large influx of new models and actresses in the celebrity world today? She is alive and well and coming back in style (if you consider the products she is endorsing).
