Church-Offending Art II – Homoerotic Last Supper

(TrendHunter.com) This homoerotic recreation of Leonardo’s Last Supper has offended a Viennese cardinal, making it second piece of modern art on Trend Hunter we’ve known to offend the church.

Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn, archbishop of Vienna, described the image as “a homosexual orgy” of Apostles, which he found …

Green School Uniforms – Recycled Bottle Blazers (GALLERY)

(TrendHunter.com) Schools in the UK can now dress their students in a uniform made entirely from old Coca-Cola bottles, which will help them meet their carbon footprint targets.

New advances in flaking, chipping and spinning plastic at a plant in Taiwan have made “blazers with bottle” commercially viable.

Justice Mitchell, Web marketing superhero

Justice
We’d be a fan of Justice Mitchell even if he didn’t ply his trade at our friend and co-conspirator David Griner’s agency, Luckie & Company. And ply he does, with interactive marketing chops that bring to mind the old Tenacious D quote: “If you want your asses blown out, stay in the room.” Luckie has built a whole campaign, Demand Justice Now, around its hiring of Mitchell. It includes a savvier-than-thou Twitter feed and several spoof legal ads. As Justice would say (and, in fact, did say), “It’s not bragging if you can throw out enough metrics to imply you did it.” Stick that in your Facebook and smoke it.

Read Any Good Books Lately?

About six months ago we launched an office blog called Scratch, where people share favorite websites, creative briefs, the video of the moment, and whatever they happen to be thinking about. Some of my favorite posts describe what people are reading, so I asked them to send me a list of books that have influenced their thinking about advertising and business.

Mad Men Season 1 DVD Box Set

Double A Paper or Bust

As far as photocopying is concerned, you cannot help but think if photocopying machines have a mind of their own in the real world. But if you want to promote the quality and reliability of your product, this Double A paper commercial is one for the books!

Using the famed boom of the movie “The Transformers” as part of its storyline, you just got to hand it to the makers of this video commercial for conceptualization. You just have to know how to maximize advertising opportunities while minimizing costs for talent fees known to be outrageous these days.

Things are Not What They Seem with Budweiser

One thing that you can count on when it comes to producing the whole script of commercials is the creativity part of each segment. Most companies like the makers of Budweiser know what the public want.

While some may criticize them for placing some sort of some malice, as long as there is nothing offensive about them, you got to take your hats off to the makers of these commercials.

So the next time you feel the heat, grab a bud. But once you do, make sure you cool it first before proceeding. Some things may not be what as they seem in the world of creative advertising.

Spoof Celeb Obituaries – Britney, Amy, Whitney, Courtney, Mary-Kate

(TrendHunter.com) I’m usually kind of cynical when it comes to celebrities and the circus atmosphere surrounding them. Some will say that I’m usually kind of cynical. Period. But I digress. Thing is that I read this article in the April 2008 issue of Glamour Magazine yesterday that really bummed me out a little bit. …

Is Lowe’s pushing a different kind of wood?

Lowesbear
Our friends at Adland have undertaken a bold investigation into whether Lowe’s features a free-swinging bear schlong in its new 60-second spot. Tipped off by a concerned viewer who noticed the purported “Ursa Minor” during an HD broadcast, Adland busted out its rarely used “Bear Penis Detector Zoom 3000.” You can watch their results and decide for yourself. This might be the first time I was actually excited to see that an agency (in this case BBDO) had posted a behind-the-scenes video, but it sadly doesn’t answer the question what’s up with the bear “down there.”
