PG’s Decision to Spend $100 Million on Oprah Bigger Than It Seems

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) — On the face of it, $100 million is nothing to Procter & Gamble. The consumer-products giant spent $2.7 billion last year on traditional media and web-based banner ads, according to Kantar Media. So why should anyone care if Oprah Winfrey's fledgling cable network got a taste of a couple of Tide, Crest and Pampers-created pennies?

O skate, a piscina e o “viral”

LONDON (AdAge.com) — The planes are back in the air, but it could be another two weeks before Europe gets back to normal following the six-day flight ban caused by the ash from an Icelandic volcano. NEW YORK (AdAge.com) — Starting in 2011, CBS and Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting System will share multimedia coverage of the NCAA men's basketball championship tournament games — and the ad dollars that flow to them. It's another instance of cable making inroads on marquee properties that once belonged to broadcast networks.

Dobrow Wonders If New Yorker Is Fighting Unwinnable Battle

I canceled my New Yorker subscription some time ago, mostly because the metric tonnage of unread issues threatened to topple the shelf behind my toilet. 'Twas a necessary move — I'd been fast-tracked for a "Hoarders" intervention — but to this day I lament the material I consigned to the recycling bin. Either the old New Yorkers or the Baldwin Bros. figurines had to go; I chose with my head and with my heart.

Irrelevance Isn’t Very Fascinating

If you're an agency owner you probably feel, as I do, that most of us need to be more fascinating to our clients. We must raise the bar if our industry is to evolve and, dare I say, survive? We were once one of the most fascinating industries in the world.
