Must Be Something Gets Really Fast for Nike
Posted in: UncategorizedPortland, Oregon full service agency Must Be Something launched a celebrity-filled 60-second spot for Nike touting the brand’s Air Zoom Elite 8, entitled “Find Your Fast.”
In a marriage of form and function, the ad, directed by Chappelle Show co-creator Neal Brennan, flies by at a frenetic pace, cutting from one celebrity athlete to the next in its promotion of the fast running shoe. Among the thirteen athletes in the ad are Kobe Bryant, Serena Williams, Wayne Rooney, Rafael Nadal, Richard Sherman, Odell Beckam Jr. and Allyson Felix. In other words, the spot features as many celebrity athletes as it can muster, as quickly as it can. If that’s still not fast enough for you, the ad sandwiches “The World’s Fastest Ad” (with David Blaine and Kobe Bryant) in the middle of the action, complete with a cameo by the epitome of quickness: Roadrunner. As part of the campaign, Nike is calling on viewers to log their fastest-ever mile via the Nike+ community by August 30th.
Positivity Celebrates ‘Heroes of Summer’ for Oberto
Posted in: UncategorizedPositivity launched a digital campaign for Oberto entitled “Heroes of Summer” featuring Seahawks star cornerback Richard Sherman and three “everyday unsung American heroes.”
In his spot, Sherman visits his old high school to provide encouragement, support and advice for students…and pose for an unending onslaught of selfites. Sherman extolls the virtues of hard work and dedication in the uplifting online spot, with as little awkwardness as is possible when speaking in front of a group of high schoolers. The online spot could have been aided by being edited down from its lengthy run-time, which would have made it a lot more sharable, and the (rather flimsy) connection brand only comes at the end with the “You Get Out What You Put In” tagline. Still, the positivity — which is also evident in spots highlighting Adrianne Haslet-Davis, an aspiring dancer and Boston Marathon bombing survivor, visually impaired marathoner/mountain climber Randy Pierce and leukemia patient Brady Wein — is nice to see from the brand. Pierce’s spot ties in to the brand’s Tough Mudder sponsorship by highlighting the athlete as he prepares for the competition. The spots starring Sherman and Pierce launched the campaign, which is driven by paid social media, today, with other spots rolling out next month.
“Oberto is honored to shine a light on everyday heroes across America — from those overcoming overwhelming obstacles to those supporting their communities – that embody our brand message of ‘You Get Out What You Put In,’” said David Lakey, vice president of marketing at Oberto Brands. “Our ‘Heroes of Summer’ program aims to inspire Oberto consumers with diligence, perseverance and optimism, that they can achieve their personal goals and overcome life’s hurdles.”
W+K Portland Launches ‘Never Finished’ for Nike, Starring Richard Sherman
Posted in: UncategorizedW+K Portland got Richard Sherman to star in its new spot “Never Finished” for Nike, following on the heels of Sherman’s recent appearances for Neff earlier this month and Campbell’s in August.
The new spot deals with the hype train surrounding Sherman, as he is constantly bombarded with media discussions of whether or not he is “the best.” “Never Finished” does a good job at finding humor in the situation, aided by a believably exasperated Sherman. The highlight is probably the made for TV biopic, starring Damon Wayans Jr.
Sherman’s roles in ads so far have mostly seen the Seahawks star not taking himself seriously and playing with his public persona. That definitely continues with “Never Finished,” but the schtick is much less over the top than some of his past roles, and the more nuanced characterization fits Sherman well as the spot, more than anything, mocks the media hype that surrounds star players. It makes for an entertaining ad, and Sherman’s most enjoyable performance by far.
The campaign, which runs until October 9th, also includes five additional videos, with special cameos from Johnny Manziel, Victor Cruz, Ndamukong Suh and Ken Griffey Jr.

TPS Brings Together Richard Sherman, Llama for Neff
Posted in: UncategorizedLos Angeles-based production company Three Point Stance (TPS) brings together Seahawks star cornerback Richard Sherman and a llama named Spartacus in a new campaign for Neff’s Brodie sunglasses collection.
“We wanted to connect with the Neff core audience and what better way to do that than to bring together one of the biggest names in the NFL and a llama? What started as several creatives in a room laughing at the idea of a llama and Richard morphed into an entire campaign when Shaun (Neff) and Richard (Sherman) believed in it,” said Three Point Stance founder Erick Peyton, who co-directed the spots along with Michael Koerbel.
The campaign includes seven videos, ranging in length from 15 seconds to almost a minute. Each spot employs some pretty ridiculous humor, imagining Sherman and Spartacus as inseparable buddies in various scenarios, such as hosting a cooking show and appearing together at a press conference. TPS hopes that the lighthearted approach and Sherman’s popularity will appeal to Neff’s young target demographic, and get shared on social channels. Neff founder Shaun Neff was excited to work with Sherman, stating, “Such an amazing experience to work with one of the most animated, nicest and top athletes in the NFL, it’s truly a dream come true.” (more…)
