Havas Worldwide Chicago Group announced the appointment of Celia Jones as group brand director today. She will be responsible for both strategic brand building and external marketing, reporting to U.S. Chief Growth Officer Laura Maness. Jones will also be tasked with managing external communications, events and thought leadership, and will serve as “point person for all media inquiries for the Havas Chicago Group.”

Jones arrives at Havas following over seven years at digital agency Critical Mass, where she served as global marketing director, led external marketing communications across all of the agency’s offices worldwide and played an important role in global expansion. Prior to Critical Mass, Jones served as director of content and lead copywriter at Designkitchen (a WPP Wunderman unit) for two years. Havas Taps Former College Football Stars for DISH Network

Havas Worldwide Chicago tapped former college football stars Matt Leinart, Heath Shuler and Brian Bosworth in their latest spot for DISH Network, promoting the DISH Anywhere app.

Also featuring the kangaroo mascots that just refuse to go away, the spot finds the three athletes deciding to head back to college after misunderstanding a conversation about watching live college football anywhere with DISH’s app. This is about as painful as the rest of DISH’s recent advertising, with the involvement of Leinart, Shuler and Bosworth the only thing really differentiating it. Hardcore college football fans might get a kick out of seeing the trio, but for the rest of us this is just another annoying DISH ad. Credits after the jump. (more…)

Havas Cuts in NY

Details are scant at this point, but we’ve been told by sources familiar with that Havas Worldwide, which has just appointed Propane alum Laura Maness as its U.S. chief growth officer and reported revenue growth, has cut approximately two percent of its staff across departments in its New York office. The “realignment” phrase comes into play and we’re getting approximate numbers ranging from 10-15. Our sources say that there are approximately 500 staffers in the NY office, which works with clients including GSK, Merck and IBM.

On another note, we’ve been told that New York-based Rob Pihl, ACD/copywriter at Havas, has left and started his own Basquiat-inspired brewery. Check out the contents here.
