Havas Taps Former College Football Stars for DISH Network

Havas Worldwide Chicago tapped former college football stars Matt Leinart, Heath Shuler and Brian Bosworth in their latest spot for DISH Network, promoting the DISH Anywhere app.

Also featuring the kangaroo mascots that just refuse to go away, the spot finds the three athletes deciding to head back to college after misunderstanding a conversation about watching live college football anywhere with DISH’s app. This is about as painful as the rest of DISH’s recent advertising, with the involvement of Leinart, Shuler and Bosworth the only thing really differentiating it. Hardcore college football fans might get a kick out of seeing the trio, but for the rest of us this is just another annoying DISH ad. Credits after the jump. (more…)

Here’s Some Clarification on Havas NY Cuts

We’ve received several tips, always in the doomsday form, from every which way or another (and from different IP’s, mind you) regarding cuts at Havas New York. Well, sources familiar with the matter confirm that five people across departments were let go at the agency’s Big Apple branch. We’ve been told that the cuts were not directly related to any client issues but is merely a “readjustment” of staff (so, yeah, no word if this were a direct effect of its ties with Beam). But, yeah, from what we’ve been told, the agency has hired approximately 20 people in the last month and if you recall, has also added Sean Lyons and Vin Farrell to the mix from R/GA. We’ll keep you posted if we hear anything more.

We Hear: Lyons Joining Farrell at Havas?

Well, since our inquiries last week to Havas regarding Vin Farrell went nowhere because Adweek apparently had some exclusive/vice grip on the agency’s comms, let’s just go “we hear” on this one before another “exclusive” pops up. Along with said agency’s new global chief content officer, we’ve been hearing all week that fellow R/GA-er Sean Lyons is following suit and joining up with Havas. Lyons has spent well over eight years at the agency for the digital age and for the last year has served as SVP, operations and business planning.

During his lengthy stay at R/GA, Lyons has moved up the ladder from group director to managing director to his current SVP post. We’ve checked in with both camps about the apparent move, but have yet to hear back. Maybe it was something we said, but we’ll let you know if we hear more.
