Oxfam America – Gift Better

No one thinks a toilet is a perfect holiday gift…until they need one. Oxfam America is encouraging people to gift better this holiday season by giving charitable gifts from OxfamGifts.com. Because no matter what all the latest “it” gifts do, nothing beats helping people in need.

The Gift Better campaign, created by Energy BBDO with the help of famed illustrator Jessica Hische, is driven by cheeky headlines that are brought to life in a warm and whimsical way through illustration, designed to poke fun at trendy gifts.

Hub Strategy/The Utility Collective PLYprints

Hub Strategy, the San Francisco-based integrated creative agency, has partnered with The Utility Collective to design their first-ever consumer product: ready-to-hang artwork printed on 12-inch x 18-inch maple veneer wood panels to support Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. These are being sold here on The Utility Collective website and plans are underway to sell the product at retail. Ten dollars from the sale of each piece will be directly donated to Sea Shepherd.

Sea Shepherd is best-known for their aggressive protection of whales and dolphins from illegal whalers, and is featured in the Animal Planet series “Whale Wars.” This project, from Hub and The Utility Collective, reflects this protection of defending the defenseless.

For this project, four designs were printed. The first design is a whale firing a harpoon from its blowhole. The second is a seahorse entirely made of twisted, dangerous-looking metal. The third is of a narwhal flying the Sea Shepherd flag from its tusk. And the fourth depicts a diver offering a tulip to a shark.

“This project was a uniquely gratifying one,” said Peter Judd, design director at Hub. “By combining our illustration talents with Eric’s product design experience we were able to create a fun line of products for a good organization we both wanted to support.”

“Last year Hub, as a holiday gift to clients, did a series of T-shirts that were inspired by the efforts of Sea Shepherd,” said Eric Pfeiffer, co- founder of The Utility Collective“ They gave me one of these T-shirts and I really loved the design. Part of our mission at The Utility Collective is to give back on every product we create so it was natural for us to get involved and develop the prints with Hub.”

Dvein for Xcentric

Dvein, from 8 de agosto, had created six original pieces for the experimental cinema’s exhibition Xcentric. The work is composed of six visual poems that will serve as entrance for each one of the different sections of the season. They combine real and virtual images into playful mechanical games.

*You can find the other 4 pieces and more of Dvein’s works here

Xcentric is an organization that pursues the conservation and distribution of experimental cinema through the CCCB in Barcelona. They organized an exhibition of spanish experimental cinema in Spain called “From Ecstacy to Rapture / 50 years of the “other” spanish cinema”.

The season will travel in February to the Anthology Film Archives de Nueva York then will be exhibited in Washington and Miami. In may it will make its spanish premiere simultaneously in the CCCB (Barcelona) and the National Museum of Art Reina Sofia (Madrid).

W+W, evolution thru combination

Clear and concise, that’s how director David Ruiz made this new animation to promote an ecological new concept from Roca, the W+W.
The film, commissioned by Tiempo BBDO agency, and produced by 8 de agosto explains very graphically how new ideas that can improve our lives sometimes born by cleverly combining two different working ideas…
