Watch the newest ads on TV from Mike's Hard Lemonade, Subway, Gatorade and more


Every weekday we bring you the Ad Age/iSpot Hot Spots, new TV commercials tracked by iSpot.tv, the real-time TV ad measurement company with attention and conversion analytics from more than eight million smart TVs. The ads here ran on national TV for the first time yesterday.

A few highlights: Washington Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper stars in a rather intense new 15-second Gatorade commercial. (Harper’s been helping to hype Gatorade since 2015.) A random dude makes a series of dubious fashion statements for Subway, which asks, “Who needs taste with this much flavor?” And Mike’s Hard Lemonade thinks that maybe you should have Happy Hour at your office.

Variety’s just-released Money issue carries the coverline “MEDIA MOOLAH,” and then, in the story anchoring the package, asks: “Do Media Chiefs Deserve the Lavish Pay Packages They Rake in?”

The obvious answer to that question is: Sorry, it doesn’t matter what you think! As Variety’s Brent Lang and David Lieberman write,

There’s never been a richer time to wear the crown at the media conglomerates that churn out the world’s most popular television shows and movies. CBS’ Les Moonves, Discovery’s David Zaslav and Time Warner’s Jeff Bewkes each took home salary and compensation packages in 2017 that dwarfed those of Silicon Valley pashas such as Apple’s Tim Cook ($12.8 million) or Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg ($8.9 million), despite the fact that Cook’s and Zuckerberg’s companies boast far greater market share and cultural cachet.

Martin Sorrell: I'm going to start again


Martin Sorrell said he doesn’t plan to go into “voluntary or involuntary retirement” and plans to “start again” during a speaking engagement in New York on Tuesday morning.

In an onstage interview with David Kirkpatrick, founder and CEO of Techonomy, Sorrell answered a question regarding his next plans. The former CEO of WPP exited in mid-April following an internal investigation into misconduct, ending a 33-year career at the world’s largest agency holding company.

When asked what’s next, he said, “Well, the first thing I’m going to do is tell my son ‘I’ll call you back.'”
