Tiffany & Co hires MEC for $100m global media

Tiffany & Co has appointed MEC to its $100 million (£62 million) media planning and buying account, following a competitive pitch.

DigitalRev TV desafia fotógrafos profissionais a usarem câmeras amadoras

Disney's Magic Works Because of Discipline, Belief, Leadership

The Walt Disney Co. was inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame this spring as the fifth corporate member, and I talked with John Skipper, president of ESPN and co-chairman of the Disney Media Networks, about Disney’s unique approach to marketing. John began his career at Disney in 1990.

Nobody is better at taking a great idea across all aspects of the company than Disney, and John called that ability one of the company’s great contributions to marketing.

“There is nobody better at taking a spectacular piece of film, turning it into an enchanting piece of magic for kids and families, and then making it a park ride, putting plush into stores, creating walk-around characters for the Disney cruises, making books and clothes, and moving it around internationally,” John contended.

Mr. Evans, a 13-year year veteran of the carrier, recently served as VP-consumer advertising and marketing communications for AT&T Mobility. At MediaLink, he will head up its new office in Atlanta.

“The pedigree that he brings — the je ne sais quoi of Daryl Evans coming to MediaLink — is a huge deal,” MediaLink chairman-CEO Michael Kassan said. “We’re recruiting from the major leagues.”

Derek Green Joins Ogilvy Group Sydney as ECD

ogilvy-logo130Derek Green is returning to Australia to join Ogilvy Group Sydney after almost ten years abroad to fill the role of executive creative director. Green will partly fill the void left by the departure of CCO Steve Back in July. He will lead Ogilvy Group Sydney’s team of 57 creatives beginning in December.

Green arrives from Cramer Krasselt in Chicago, where he has worked since 2012, currently serving as SVP, executive creative director. He has worked with clients including Heineken, P&G, Diageo, Novartis, Canon and Subaru, and has been the recipient of Gold and Silver Cannes Lions.

“We were able to persuade him that after nearly a decade earning international experience, it was time to come home,” David Fox, CEO Ogilvy Group Australia, told Campaign Brief. “We’ve found an international creative director who is hungry to take on the opportunities Ogilvy has to offer; the fact he has a local pedigree and market knowledge is an added bonus.”

“This is a huge opportunity to now bring everything I’ve learned in several decades of advertising to a great agency, with an iconic client list, and a lead a team of very clever and motivated individuals,” Green added.

Whoa, Walmart.com, Why Do You Have a Section Called 'Fat Girl Costumes'?

Either someone at Walmart has made a terrible mistake, or else the retailer’s SEO trolling is top notch.

Jezebel points out this morning that Walmart’s collection of Halloween costumes includes a “Fat Girl Costumes” category. We checked and found it was indeed live on the site, at least as of 10:30 a.m. today. (UPDATE: The category was purged of all items around 11:15 a.m. See below for details.)

There are several other “related’ categories like “Plus Size Halloween Costumes” and “Adult Plus Halloween,” which makes me wonder if these groupings are automatically generated from some of the descriptive metadata supplied by low-budget vendors.

If so, it might be time for Walmart to step up the curation on its site’s organization. And if this wasn’t some weird third-party metadata issue, Walmart needs to step up its goddamn common sense.>

UPDATE 1: Several AdFreak readers have noted with a laugh that the “Fat Girl Costumes” section of Walmart.com is also being featured alongside our Facebook post as a related link:

UPDATE 2: Around 11:15 a.m. ET today, Walmart removed all items from the category. The page now shows the message, “We found 0 items for the Fat Girl Costumes page.”

Here’s how the section looked on the Walmart site before the items were removed:
