We've written here and there about prankvertising and the joy marketers seem to derive from scaring the crap out of people in public places. This video eclipses them all, though, for the sheer bluntness of its fear factor. Perhaps not surprisingly, the #PubLooShocker campaign is a drunk-driving PSA—which means all bets are off when it comes to any kind of restraint. Hope Leo Burnett had a plan for cardiac arrests.

How do you deal with dog owners who don’t poop and scoop? The town of Brunete, on the outskirts of Madrid, teamed up with McCann on a limited budget to decrease the amount of dog poop on the town’s streets.
The agency employed 20 volunteers to patrol the streets, observing who left the mess out, then asking for the pet’s name in a friendly way. They then looked up the owners’ addresses via the Town Hall databases, and packaged up the dog poop as "Lost Property," to return it via courier.
According to the agency, there has been a 70% drop in the amount of poop on Brunete’s streets.
R.J. Reynolds is returning to TV advertising for the first time since 1970 to back a new "digital vapor cigarette" called Vuse. The product will be marketed by a subsidiary called the R.J. Reynolds Vapor Co.
Vuse will initially only be available in Colorado starting July 1. Colorado is the first state in an eventual national rollout, R.J. Reynolds Vapor Co. President Stephanie Cordisco said, although she did not provide a timeline for the wider launch.
The Colorado launch will include print, TV and direct mail marketing all targeted at adults. Reynolds will be utilizing its consumer database to ensure direct mail marketing only goes to verified tobacco age consumers, Ms. Cordisco said at a press conference in New York today, its first in two decades.

El que va començar com una petita ocupació per a protegir el Parc Gezi a Estambul s’ha convertit en qüestió de dies en una protesta massiva que s’ha estès com la pólvora a tota Turquia. Un desencadenant clau va ser l’ús de força desproporcionat amb el que la policia va respondre. Així com el Parc Gezi va simbolitzar les lluites per a defensar el ja reduït espai públic, segrestat per l’autoritarisme neoliberal, les granades de gas pebre amb les que les forces de seguretat van ruixar Estambul s’han convertit en una metàfora literal de la falta d’aire per a respirar amb què vivim. Centenars de milers de persones vam sortir al carrer per a recolzar l’ocupació del Parc Gezi malgrat l’apagada dels mitjans de comunicació i desafiant la brutalitat policial. Ara hem reclamat no només l’espai del Parc Gezi, sinó també la Plaça Taksim, el cor de l’esfera pública de Turquia, on les expressions de descontentament i insatisfacció de les multituds han estat reprimides reiteradament al llarg de la història del país. Mentre Taksim i Gezi es veuen inundades cada nit de milers de persones que vénen a celebrar la seva solidaritat, victòria i força, la nostra resistència en altres parts d’Estambul i altres ciutats per tota Turquia continua.

Just as it looked like all the steam went out of the J.C. Penney tea-pot scandal, in comes the new catalog to the Ad Age newsroom. And in it lies another potential case of housewares masquerading as real people. (Or, perhaps, we’re just crazy.)
For those of you vacationing in Borneo last week without wireless access, here’s a recap. A brew-ha-ha erupted online after someone spotted a billboard in Southern California advertising a tea kettle for sale at the retailer. With its salute-like spout and odd-shaped handle, its purported resemblance to Adoph Hitler got social networks roiling.
The retailer, with surprising lightheartedness given its recent finanical and management woes, took to Twitter with a seemingly perfect response: "If we have designed the teapot to look like something, we would have depicted a kitten tea kettle :)" So much for the theory that an entire line of dictator teapots was in the works.

Was als eine kleine Besetzung um „Istanbul Gezi Park“ vor Zerstörung zu schützen begann, mutierte innerhalb von wenigen Tagen zu massiven Protesten, die sich wie ein Dominoeffekt in der ganzen Türkei verbreitet hat. Ein wichtiger Auslöser war die massive und aggressive Gewaltanwendung durch die Polizei. Durch den Kampf um Taksim Gezi Park und immer weniger werdenden Grünraum in der Stadt vor neoliberalem Autoritarismus zu schützen, wurde der Frischluftbedarf über Istanbul durch massiven Pfeffergaseinsatz der Sicherheitskräfte fast literarisiert. Hunderttausende von Menschen gingen auf die Straße zur Unterstützung der Gezi-Park-Bewegung trotz eines totalen Medien-Blackout und die Brutalität der Polizei. Inzwischen geht es nicht nur um Gezi Park zurückzufordern, sondern auch um Taksim Platz, der in der gesamten Republiksgeschichte eine politische Tradition hat. Taksim- und Gezi-Bewegung wächst jede Nacht um Tausende von Menschen, die ihre Solidarität mit unseren Widerstand in anderen Teilen von Istanbul und anderen Städten der Türkei in Tat umsetzen. Bei einer Sache sind wir uns sicher: Nichts wird je wieder so sein wie es war.

Wat begon als een kleine bezetting om het Gezi park in Istanboel te verdedigen, is in enkele dagen aangewakkerd tot een massale demonstratie door heel Turkije. Een belangrijke oorzaak voor de protesten was het buitenproportionele geweld dat de politie gebruikt. Op dezelfde wijze waarop Gezi Park een brandpunt werd over de krimpende gemeenschappelijke ruimtes die zijn gekaapt door het neo-liberaal autoritarisme, veroorzaakte het traangas dat de veiligheids macht over Istanboel uitgoot letterlijk een behoefte aan ademruimte – honderdduizenden mensen gingen de straat op als steunbetuiging voor de bezetting van Gezi park. Niet alleen hebben we Gezi park bezet, maar ook het Taksimplein, het hart van het Turkse openbare leven, waar massademonstraties bij herhaling zijn verboden gedurende de hele geschiedenis van de republiek. Terwijl Taksim en Gezi iedere nacht duizenden mensen aantrekken om hun solidariteit, overwinning en macht te vieren neemt ons verzet in andere delen van Istanboel en andere steden over heel Turkije toe. Een ding weten we zeker: het zal nooit meer hetzelfde zijn.

Timed to coincide with the Supreme Court’s pending decision on DOMA and Proposition 8, Expedia is releasing “Find Your Understanding,” a video about same-sex marriage created by 180LA, on television for the first time starting today. The online video, which debuted last October has been viewed 2,533,874 times on YouTube and has been featured in major media news outlets.
The film follows a father’s journey, both literal and figurative as he confronts his conflicting emotions around his lesbian daughter’s same-sex marriage. Through his trip to her wedding, he ultimately finds his understanding.
n February, the ad was selected as one of TED’s Ads Worth Spreading. Partially as a result, “Find Your Understanding” actually assisted in granting Nikki the legal adoption of Jill’s son, Adler, as their marriage was not recognized as legal by the courts in California at the time of his birth.
Now the spot arrives to television, launching on several cable channels including CNN, Bravo, History, Logo, A&E, H2, and Ovation. With the broader audience, Expedia has succeeded in making a bold statement during an important time for LGBT rights, as the Supreme Court decision on DOMA is just around the corner, and the celebration of Gay Pride Month is in full swing.
Of the work, 180LA ECD William Gelner said, “When done right, an ad can truly have a lasting positive impact on the world. In hopes of doing just that, our three minute film airs before the Supreme Court rules on the issue of same-sex marriage.”
The spot is part of Expedia’s “Find Yours” campaign, which aims to highlight the real-life stories of travelers’ journeys. The thtree minute placement can be seen tonight on Anderson Cooper on CNN, Life Below Zero on National Geographic, and at various times on A&E, Bravo, CNN, H2, History Channel, Logo, MSNBC, National Geographic, and Ovation from June 6-8.

O que começou como uma pequena ocupação para proteger o Gezi Park, em Istambul, explodiu em questão de dias em manifestações massivas que se espalharam como fogo pela Turquia. O gatilho que disparou os protestos foi o uso desproporcional da força pela polícia. Assim como Gezi Park simbolizou a luta pelos espaços públicos que encolhem cada vez mais, sequestrados pelo autoritarismo neoliberal, o gás de pimenta lançado pelas autoridades de segurança tornou-se uma metáfora para a necessidade geral de espaço para respirar – centenas de milhares de pessoas saíram às ruas em apoio à ocupação do Gezi Park, apesar do silêncio total da mídia, desafiando a brutalidade da polícia. Agora, ocupamos não só o Gezi Park, mas também a Praça Taksim, o coração da vida pública na Turquia, onde expressões populares de protesto têm sido continuamente reprimidas, ao longo da história da república.
