Só que ao contrário do que empresas como Nike, Coca-Cola, Kelloggs, Subway, AT&T, Hilton e Mazda, todas patrocinadoras de Phelps, devem estar pensando, uma em particular está comemorando o buzz gratuito: a tradicional grife suíça de relógios Omega.

Michael Phelps aparece na foto usando um dos modelos da marca, criado especialmente para ele. De acordo com o Huffington Post, um porta-voz da Omega declarou: “Não dá para comprar esse tipo de product placement – acredite, nós temos tentado”. O executivo disse ainda que, depois da polêmica, pretendem vender réplicas oficiais do The Poseidon, apelido dado ao relógio por causa de sua resistência na água.

Outra que gostou da foto foi a PowerBar, marca de barras de cereais e energéticas voltada para atletas, que também já veiculou uma campanha protagonizada por Phelps. O diretor de comunicação da empresa acredita que a imagem ajuda a reposicionar um cara que o mundo já admira, só que agora com 10% a mais de bad boy: “As garotas adoram um bad boy!”.
