Advertising Most Effective on Original Content Sites, Study Finds

A report from the Online Publishers Association found that sites with original content outperformed the rest of the Web (i.e. ad networks, portals) .

FINDINGS:
&#151 Since the first report in July, aided brand awareness scores on OPA member sites have increased 38%, while scores on ad networks have declined 19%.
&#151 Similarly, brand favorability scores for OPA member sites have risen 27%, while ad networks, portals and MarketNorms have dropped 29%, 17% and 6% respectively.
&#151 The new data also shows that younger audiences (18-34 year olds) are estimated to be about twice as likely (106% better, on average) to form favorable opinions about advertised brands on OPA member sites than on portals and MarketNorms (83% better). And the same trend holds true for affluent audiences, where OPA member sites are estimated to be 94% more effective at impacting brand favorability than MarketNorms, and 118% more effective at impacting brand awareness.

So, now you know where to spend your money online. Kinda.

Today, We Break Into R/GA

Karen Spiegel is R/GA’s representative to the public at large, which makes her an important person to people like me, who want to know things about agencies like R/GA. The digital shop is one of many wonders, and as such we want to get in there and dig around a little so to share with you how they do what they do. Today, my friends is that day, and I will walk R/GAs hallowed halls with Ms. Spiegel &#151 who will surely have much to tell me about the interwebs and her agency’s place within them.

Needless to say, we’re stoked. The last time we went somewhere fancy, it was to JWT’s offices for their Halloween party/let’s announce to everyone that AgencySpy is here so he won’t try anything sneaky. Talk about a fish out of water. I hadn’t felt that awkward since high school, which was an orgy of weird mishaps and accidental farts.

Brian Morrissey tells me the agency has a nice coffee shop, but we want to see the other two buildings &#151 for example apparently there’s one with a nifty freight elevator. He also mentioned something about a server room, which I heard has six chairs lined up in a semi-circle and fitted with these spiky metal things that plug into the back of R/GAers’ heads so they can literally zap into the Matrix. So excited!

LGs Got Steam Heat: Can it Clean Mad Ave?

Here’s a spot for LG that does a nice job of showing you how their steam cleaning system works. First you billow tons of steam into a desolate, dirty city, then you watch as the magical vaporized water makes everything all shiny and new.

Dear LG, please come to New York. We have this big street called Madison Avenue that’s all racist and whatnot, and we hear racists are scared of having the grime scraped off their facades so we think you’re the perfect company to take care of this issue. Here’s hoping this ad wasn’t produced by Madison Ave!

As always, thanks to Illegal Advertising for sharing.

The Feeling at CES: True Convergence Starts Now

After almost a full day navigating the labyrinth of the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show, I can honestly say that the coolest thing I've experienced isn't a gadget, a big flat TV or a great mobile device (hey, Apple isn't here). It's more of a feeling. A feeling that finally, after years of promise and the same old demos, the promise of the "web" is coming true, and it is much grander than we ever dreamed.

A Summer to Stay Home For: MadMen Returns

610x.jpg

The ad industry’s favorite 1960s era sex/booze/flannel-suit drama MadMen (thanks AMC!) returns this summer, promises some guy associated with the show.

That guy, network EVP/GM Charlie Collier, assures us that despite some kind of contract tiff between show creator Matthew Weiner and Lionsgate TV will be resolved, and as long as they can wrangle the writers to get going in the next few months everything will be fine, just fine.

Hmm, well that actually sounds really really quaky and not at all for sure but thanks for trying, Mr. Collier. I swear to gawd if I can’t watch my MadMen I’ll walk straight to California and start yelling. Yelp. That threat feels as empty as the likelihood that Weiner will suck it up and resign. Sad Friday people.

Thanks for sharing, Pip! Source
