A Beer, Some Nachos and Highly Targeted “TV”

According to Ad Age, Molson-Coors and Diageo are pouring Canadian ad dollars into a fledgling video network that broadcasts directly to bars.

The Bar Channel broadcasts programming via closed-circuit internet to subscriber bars. Bar Channel’s offerings include short clips of bloopers, extreme sports, scantily clad women and other standard bar fare, set inside a rail that flashes local information, the bar’s name and logo, sponsor logos, the local time and weather, and whatever message the bar wants to send to its customers.

“We’ve seen share gains in the bars where we’ve used it,” said Terry Rudiak, who manages national sales for Molson-Coors in Canada. “So we’re pretty excited about where this can go.”

What not to do while driving your Renault

Renaultpsp In addition to celebrating penguins today, we’re also keeping an eye (but only one eye) on ads featuring people with serious vision problems. Yesterday, we had the MasterCard guy whose one wandering orb threatens to saddle him with credit-card debt. Now, we have these creepy ads from Publicis in Rome promoting the Renault Scénic, which apparently comes fitted with a PlayStation Portable device—not, you would think, the best idea if safe driving is the goal. The headline is “Drive or play,” but as these characters demonstrate, the stronger urge might be to drive and play.

Worms_2 After a presumably wormy 2007, this gruff-looking fellow has turned a page this year, and vows to be completely pest-free thanks to Drontal, billed as “Britain’s No. 1 Wormer.” The same dog appears over at the Drontal Web site, where he eyes the roaming mouse pointer warily, perhaps wondering if it’s in the worm family. The site also features a Stop Worms Dead advergame (“Aim your target at the heads of these worms to earn points and gain more time”). Is it worth playing? Absolutely not!
