All the stork’s hard work, gone to waste

Stork
Ah, the stork. That world-renowned symbol of the Hague, the tenacity of Vietnamese farmers, and your parents having sex. So, naturally it’s a perfect fit for Monster.com, as this spot from BBDO illustrates. And while it’s cute and somewhat touching, the implications darken once the bird stares into the poor guy’s window and silently judges him. Is it there on behalf of his disappointed parents, or is it nesting on his roof to foreshadow his death by year’s end, in accordance with rural Danish tradition? Whatever its haunting visage portends, it’s surely nothing that a better job—or least a well-lit cubicle—can’t cure.

Inescapable

According to The Wall Street Journal, travelers who visit Heathrow Airport’s new terminal will be bombarded with ads.

The new terminal is equipped with 333 billboard slots and 206 flat-screen TV sets, which can change ads to target specific flights. By contrast, Los Angeles International has 34 advertising TV sets in the entire airport and New York’s John F. Kennedy International has 40.

The airport, which serves Europe’s biggest financial center and is a transit point for many flights to and from the U.S., draws heavily on international business travelers, a group advertisers will pay a premium to reach. Some 27 million people are expected to pass through the new building, called Terminal Five, in the first year and 30% of them will earn more than $100,000 a year.

While outdoor advertising is a small part of the industry, it is growing faster — at 8% a year — than all other advertising forms except the Internet.

RESEARCH FACTOID: The average business traveler’s heart rate is 91 beats per minute, compared with 70 beats for a relaxed person.

Hey there, friends, welcome to my vlog!

Technicaldifficulties
Hi! Welcome to my vlog! Everybody’s video blogging, so I figured I’d give it a try. You might ask: Exactly who is video blogging? Well, there’s Rep. Keith Kelly. And there’s Vladimir Putin—he vlogs all the time. Anyway, I’m wearing the red tie and white shirt I got for Christmas. Mom says they make me look “sharp.” And I took off my glasses. There’s a Led Zep poster behind me on the wall. Guess I should move out of my parents’ house some day. This Coke isn’t a product placement. I’m just thirsty. It’s a can, not a bottle, in case you were wondering. My mom just walked in. She’s about 5-foot-2, mid-60s. … Hey ma, do you mind, I’m VLOGGING! (I typed that in all caps, like I was shouting, to really paint a picture of what’s going on.) OK, she left. Um … sorry there’s no video. I haven’t figured out how to work the digital camera. But the lack of multimedia content makes my vlog especially distinctive. Plus, I’ve got the worst case of pink-eye. Who wants to see that? Oh right, Putin doesn’t vlog. But sometimes he has people flogged.
