Campaigns Need Long Legs, Not Annual Amputations

Writing on AdPulp and in his TalentZoo column, Dan Goldeier makes, correctly, the argument most campaigns are no longer given the time they need to build momentum and to enter the psyche of the consumer long enough to mean anything.

Still Unbuttoned with Levi’s

While I may question some of the placement for the new Levi’s campaign, it doesn’t mean I don’t think it’s a great positioning for the brand. The digital and print portion of the campaign was recently brought to my attention and I must say… I love it. Developed by EVB, the campaign has you unbutton celebs with the iconic 501 button, hawking that everyone has an artistic side – you just need to unbutton it. The print showcases one of the artists/athletes/celebrities being featured in the campaign and pushes readers to that person’s own microsite. Once at the site, you can not only watch a video but also download free, exclusive content (ie Estelle’s “No Substitute for Love (Remix)”). And not to mention, if you like the Levi’s apparel their wearing, there’s a link directly to that piece. Check out all the featured celebs at their sites below.

Fusion R&B Artist Nikka Costa: http://www.levi.com/nikka

Lyrical Wizard Wale: http://www.levi.com/wale

Blogger Extraordinaire Perez Hilton: http://www.levi.com/perez

XGames Gold Medalist Jamie Bestwick: http://www.levi.com/jamie

More artists will continue to roll out through next year. I’m waiting in anticipation to see who is willing to get unbuttoned, share their creativity and even a free download.

20,000 Jobs Created in August in Small Biz sector

Chalkboard.png

A new report by Automatic Data Processing (ADP) revealed today that 20,000 people were hired by small businesses &#151 aka those with 49 people or fewer &#151 during the month of August. That marks the third month in increased hiring for small businesses in the “service-providing” sector.

(Ed’s note: does “service-providing” include prostitutes, “massage therapists” and Elliot Spitzer‘s staff?)

Anyway, the news isn’t all that great since the two other sectors analyzed showed pretty significant losses. That’s non-farm private and goods producing industries.

In total, about 100,000 people lost their jobs in August alone. But small biz overall was small, with a total of 45,000 new gigs made available.

More after the jump.

continued…
