W+K Amsterdam Names Blake Harrop Managing Director
Posted in: UncategorizedWieden+Kennedy Amsterdam announced the appointment of Blake Harrop as managing director, replacing Clay Mills, who left for an opportunity in the UK. Harrop will join Executive Creative Directors Eric Quennoy and Mark Bernath, who took over in 2010.
Harrop arrives from W+K Tokyo, where he has served as managing director for four year. While at W+K Tokyo he worked with clients including Nike, Facebook and Ben & Jerry’s and is credited with helping to grow the independent agency, which was named Independent Agency of the Year in 2014 by Campaign Asia. Prior to W+K, Harrop spent two years as senior vice president of Digitas New York. He has also served as global strategist and global head of interactive marketing for Samsung.
“Our Amsterdam office has always been a global powerhouse and Blake’s DNA makes him the perfect fit for the office,” said W+K President and Partner Dave Luhr, in a statement. “I don’t know too many Managing Directors out there who have lived in every region of the world, speak five languages, have proven digital chops, is a Judo master and knows how to inspire creativity. I can’t wait to see what our trio of Eric, Mark and Blake in Amsterdam will do.”
W+K Amsterdam Unveils ‘Booking Now’ for Booking.com
Posted in: UncategorizedW+K Amsterdam has launched an integrated campaign for Booking.com introducing the Booking Now app.
In a series of four 30-second spots which begin airing this Sunday, W+K Amsterdam borrows a trick from “Ship My Pants,” ending each ad with the almost-expletive filled, “The right room, right booking now,” in suggestive circumstances. Each spot presents a comical scenario where immediate booking is a necessity. In “Dead Bed” it’s a grandmother offering up the bed where her husband died peacefully, while the similar “Race Car Bed” borrows a gag from Grandma’s Boy. “Karate” and “Interview” change things up, presenting a couple who are pleasantly surprised by their daughter’s performance at a karate competition and a woman who arrives for a job interview a full day early.
In addition to the broadcast spots, the campaign also includes cinema, OOH and digital activations.
Agency Vets Open New hasan & partners Shop
Posted in: UncategorizedThis week, Helsinki-based hasan & partners opened its first “international” shop in Stockholm–and brought along a team with an extensive agency history to staff it.
About the four founding partners:
- Creative Director Daniel Wall comes from McCann, where he led the “creative SWAT team” known as Surprise Department; he also worked at W+K Amsterdam and Farfar.
- Fellow Creative Director Jakob Swedenborg has a nearly identical resume; he also worked at W+K and McCann along with Sweden’s Lowe Bridnfors.
- Peter Laurelli, the new shop’s third CD, most recently worked at GolinHarris after founding his own agency Blond Swedish Amateurs (do NOT try to Google that, BTW) and serving in creative roles at GS&P and 180 Amsterdam
- Leading the office will be managing director Camilla Hahn Fortkord, who most recently directed Coca-Cola and other accounts at McCann Stockholm.
This move follows hasan’s acquisition of digital studio Perfect Fools–a move executives recently discussed during electroshock therapy sessions for our amusement.
