NEW YORK (AdAge.com) — Hachette Filipacchi closed Metropolitan Home, adding the title to the list of shelter magazines buried by recession, the end of the housing bubble and the shifting media business. Publishers have already closed home titles such as Southern Accents, Domino, Country Home, Cottage Living and O at Home.

But the funny thing about experts, the thing they don't teach you in grad school, is that experts are looking in the wrong darn direction. They spend life looking backward instead of forward, which makes it awfully hard to find a new direction or uncover an unconventional opportunity.
