Chandelier Creative, Old Navy Go Back to School Shopping with Amy Schumer

With August here, Chandelier Creative launched its back-to-school campaign for Old Navy.

Chandelier has previously worked with Amy Poehler and Julia Louis-Dreyfusand Amy Schumer is the latest female comedian representing the brand.  (Carrie Brownstein also appeared alongside her Portlandia co-star Fred Armisen in Chandelier’s holiday campaign for the brand.)

Schumer, who’s really raking in the ad money these days between this and her appearances in W+K’s Bud Light campaign with Seth Rogen, is “roped into spending the day” with her sister’s kids in the ad.

So she calls a kid named Thomas, who she calls frequently for some reason. He informs her “back-to-school is like our red carpet” and that she should go to Old Navy, which is “what we all wear,” for up to 60 percent off on clothes for the season.

On her way to the store, Schumer declares herself “the best aunt in the world.”

In addition to the full-length, 60-second digital version above, the ad will also appear on broadcast in 30 and 15-second versions sure to dampen the spirits of children on summer break. We’re told the spot also features “young influencers” with strong social media followings such as Thomas Barbusca, Laneya Grace, Skai Jackson and Hayden Summerall, but we have no idea who any of them are because we’re not 14 years old.

The spot follows a familiar formula, relying on its celebrity comedian’s presence and ending with a run to the store. That run is a bit more convincing than usual, as Schumer does a pretty good job selling the idea that she really wants to get those kids out of her apartment.

W+K New York and The Bud Light Party Tackle ‘Equal Pay’

Back in February, W+K launched “The Bud Light Party” campaign with a Super Bowl spot starring Amy Schumer and Seth Rogen, promising the campaign’s light-hearted satire of American politics would continue through November. At the beginning of the month, the campaign continued with Rogen and Schumer proclaiming their support for gay weddings, which they say are “just like any wedding.” Now the pair are back to tackle “Equal Pay” in a new, 30-second spot, which, like its predecessors, never quite finds its comedic voice.

Like its predecessor, the spot sees the brand taking a popular stance on a relatively non-divisive issue. When Rogen says “Women don’t get paid as much as men and that is wrong,” Schumer adds, “And we have to pay more for the same stuff.” An alarmed Rogen then calls his mother, yelling about she has to pay more for a car than dad.

The approach, which seems to be a pattern now, is a different one than the Super Bowl spot at the campaign’s inception, which was a more generic parody of the American political process. We could see a return to the former as the general election approaches and dominates news headlines. Whatever approach W+K chooses to take going forward, we hope the agency and the “Bud Light Party” comedians can find the humor in it going forward. Given the talent involved, this campaign has had a disheartening lack of laughs thus far.

“The Bud Light Party is about bringing people together and sparking national conversations around timely topics,” Alex Lambrecht, vice president, Bud Light at Anheuser-Busch said, in a statement. “In our newest spot, Seth and Amy have a colorful banter surrounding the matter of equal pay—which the Bud Light Party proudly supports.”

To the brand’s credit, it is to some degree putting its money where its mouth is, donating a dollar to workplace equality organization Catalyst for every time someone uses the #CheersToEqualPay hashtag on social media.

Mother, Acer Introduce Us to Vernon, Assistant to the ‘World’s #1 DJ’

After showing us Kiefer Sutherland/Jack Bauer’s, er, softer side and making a case for Megan Fox as a marine biologist, Mother London and Acer have teamed up again for another fairly amusing web film to promote one of the computer brand’s Ultrabooks. This latest collaboration stars the globe-trotting Dutch progressive house DJ/producer now simply known as Tiesto and his hapless assistant, Vernon, who perhaps resembles a hybrid of Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen.

One would think that Tiesto, who probably earns at least six figures a gig in a million exotic destinations and has been lathered up by the likes of DJ Magazine and Rolling Stone as the “world’s #1 DJ” over the years, would hire someone a bit less befuddled than Vernon to run his affairs. But, as you can see, being adept at using an Acer Aspire P3 Ultrabook can turn even the most awkward of characters into a model-luring, scene-stealing star. We can all dare to dream. Credits after the jump.
