McDonalds’s – 24 / 7 Drive through – print, New Zealand

DDB New Zealand lets us know that McDonald’s has a 24 hour drive through in a visual way that only those who own the golden arches can. If you feel s light pain in your forehead I suspect it’s because you’re kicking yourself for not doing this visual.

Benetton supports and promotes Africa for Africans.

Africa Works, this ad campaign from Benetton promotes the Birima micro-credit programme in Senegal, a co-operative credit society founded by the Senegalese singer Youssou N’Dour. The programme will also receive financial support from Benetton Group. Photographer James Mollison portrays working men and women with the tools of their trade against a neutral background.

They include, amongst others, a fisherman, a decorator, a musician, a jewellery-maker, a farmer, a tailor, two textile sellers and a boxer. These everyday people become tangible symbols of an Africa that uses the dignity of work to fight poverty, promote equitable development, maximise its resources and take back responsibility for creating its future.
Youssou N’Dour, one of Africa’s best-known singers and a man committed to humanitarian projects, comments: “my personal experience led me to realise that when a loan, however small, is used to develop an idea or realise a project, it is an effective way of fighting poverty. This is why everybody must understand the value of micro-credit. Africa doesn’t want charity, it wants repayable subsidised loans.”

Luxor Highlighters – Chaplin, Hitler and Che – press ads, India

Leo Burnett Mumbai uses Hitler, Chaplin and Che for highlight marker Luxor ads.

What do highlighters do? They highlight important parts of the story, right? Here they do more than that – if you read what’s been highlighted you get another story alltogether. Ten extra gold stars to the entire team for managing this, and copywriter Russell Barrett, it must have been a royal pain to do. Click on the images to get nice big one where you can read the copy.

Jenna Jameson pushes pleather dressed as Bettie Page in PETA ad

Yep, we already told you that PETA pushes pleather with Jenna Jameson and now we have the ad where Jenna does her best Bettie Page impression. It would look a hell of a lot better if they had gotten a wig from anywhere but the dollar store. I’ve had barbies with better hair.

OSO Food Wrap – Strange Dishes – print Australia

DDB Sydney has cooked up these odd dishes for OSO Food Wrap to remind people that “Separate is Best”. Sure sure, they look tasty from a distance but look closer…. Uhm… Well hang on, this one on the left is totally something that I would have eaten when I was preggars, though it could use some slices of thin roast beef and a dash of sweet mustard. Oh yeah!

Perfectly photographed by George Scott to look like those classic cookbook food shots, these ads remind you of the ick that happens when food flavors start to combine in the fridge. Though I don’t know anyone who keeps their candy-jelly-worms in the fridge, I’ll happily overlook that just because these ads are so purdy.

One Show Ad shortlist and winner tour – Brazil

I haven’t had this much fun laughing at swear words since that time I was recording a bunch of stoned cratives from *Scpf about Spanish curses. They’d explain “I shit in your oblat holder” is bad but “I shit in your milk” is worse.
Spanish curses seem very preoccupied with excrement and food. Even an idiot is a “Come mierda” (shit eater). Sin virguenza.
Almap BBDO São Paulo shows us the highbrow cursing needed when the One Show ads are coming to town. You can’t just cuss when the ads are this good, you know.

ASH – Smoking kills more than terrorism – (2008) Poster (New Zealand)

To drive home the point of how many actually die from smoking, ASH and DDB New Zealand compare the cancersticks to the twin towers. I have a weird feeling that I’ve seen this before.

McDonald’s Big ‘n’ Juicy Burger “Giant napkin” double page spread

More napkins from McDonald’s and DDB in Stockholm, Sweden. Seems the motto for this campaign was “think big”. Here oversized napkins made out of real napkin paper were stapled into the middle of Metro as a double-page spread.

Clemenger BBDO Wellington brings us this rather gory depiction of what might happen if you don’t sleep and drive. Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “I’m gonna go crash” doesn’t it?

Vaseline Braille posters – Keeping Skin Amazing – “touch” poster.

Bartle Bogle & Hegarty in Singapore had this neat little ‘interactive’ idea to show off the smoothness of your skin for Vaseline.

“Your Skin Is Amazing” written in Braille, and underlined in type as well. As you can see, the poster is stuck on the outside of the protective glass, so it did not make the same mistake as those braille posters that the seeing could not read and the blind could not touch so the message fell on deaf ears back in 2001 (wow, has it been that long already? Adland’s internet-age is making me feel old now.)
