Volkswagen Group Launches Global Media Review
Posted in: UncategorizedVolkswagen Group, which includes Audi and Porsche, has become the latest advertiser to launch a global media review. VW Group spent about $605 million in U.S. measured media in 2014, according to Kantar Media.
The review is still in its opening stages, with VW Group having reached out to holding companies, and it is unclear if incumbent Mediacom, who has worked with VW Group since 1998, will defend. Volkswagen Group’s decision to launch a global media review follows on the heels of a slew of advertisers launching similar reviews. BASF and GoDaddy launched their own global media review earlier this week, while P&G launched a North American media review a week ago and Norwegian Cruise Line launched a creative and media review in early April. SC Johnson, meanwhile, consolidated its media buying account with PHD following a media review open only to roster shops.
Doner Gets Tough with Ving Rhames for ADT
Posted in: UncategorizedDoner was lead creative agency on the latest campaign for ADT, which also saw the brand work with SapientNitro and Mediacom.
The campaign is built around two 60-second broadcast spots starring Ving Rhames which launch today, entitled “Home Automation Makes Your Smart Home a Safe Home” and “ADT Home Security is Always There.” In the former, Rhames acts as the personification of the brand (sort of Allstate’s “Mayhem” in reverse), acting as “both the big brain at the center of your peace of mind and the big muscle to keep the peace.” The spot focuses on features such as smart controls and remote access for lights, thermostat and locks — or, as Rhames puts it, “You know, Space Age stuff.” In “ADT Home Security is Always There” Rhames demonstrates the omnipresence of ADT security by acting as a 24/7 bouncer for a residence, which, it turns out, comes in handy.
“Ving is the ideal personification of ADT, representing a sense of strength and confidence that can only come with the experience of 140 years in business,” said David DeMuth, co-CEO and president of Doner, in a statement. “What’s more is that Ving also represents the other side of ADT – the side with leading, connected technology. He has brains and brawn, and when it comes to protecting your home, family and business, consumers want both.”
Anheuser-Busch Clarifies: We Haven’t Picked a Media Agency Yet
Posted in: UncategorizedEarlier today, Anheuser-Busch’s head of PR Lisa Weser tweeted at us to release a statement: despite multiple reports to the contrary, WPP’s Mediacom has not yet won the account.
Here’s the full text, attributed to marketing VP Jorn Socquet:
Earlier this week, several news outlets erroneously reported that Anheuser-Busch had concluded its media agency search by awarding the business to WPP Group’s Mediacom.
This was an inaccurate report that was never announced by Anheuser-Busch. In fact, we have not yet awarded our U.S. media planning and buying business to an agency partner, and remain in talks with two finalists – WPP’s Mediacom and Publicis Groupe’s Spark.
When an agency is selected and retained, an announcement will be made by Anheuser-Busch.
It’s worth noting that we weren’t the only outlet to post about Mediacom’s “win”: on Monday, the story also appeared in Adweek, AdAge, MediaPost, St. Louis Today, and more.
And here we thought we were the only trade pub getting bad tips. Reminds us of the reports claiming that Deutsch LA is this close to winning Sprint…
