MRY VISA Spot Marks Michael Sam’s Debut as Spokesman

Michael Sam hasn’t even been drafted yet, but things are looking good for the man who would be the NFL’s first gay player: he’s already signed his first endorsement deal.

Here’s his spot for VISA from MRY and production company Decon, released just in time for the start of the draft:

The message sticks very close to what Sam’s been saying all along: Sure, I’m gay, but it’s no big deal. Just focus on how well I play the game.

Unlike Sam, Auburn’s Greg Robinson got drafted in the second round by The Rams last night. His spot after the jump…

Shaq, Shawn Kemp Return in Ep. 2 of Decon’s ‘Retro Shop’ Series for Reebok

New York-based production company Decon has launched the next episode in its funny new web series promoting Reebok Classic

To refresh memory, Reebok commissioned Decon to run with a strategic content approach to promote its new retro Classic product line. So, Decon came up with the mini web series, “The Retro Shop,” and the results are pretty hilarious. The first item in the Reebok Classic launch is the Shaq Attaq Retro sneaker, which made its debut on the 14th, so naturally everyone’s favorite Kazaam star is featured heavily in the first two episodes. “The Retro Shop” is set, appropriately enough, at an old school barber shop, where patrons discuss argue about some of the NBA’s greatest players. It’s a formula that works really well, especially since Decon keeps things on the shorter side, and makes for an eminently watchable experience. So grab some popcorn and in case you need a rewind, check out episode 1 starring Shaq and his horrible wig, along with credits, after the jump. continued…

Let’s Meet a Bartender Who Dares to Tanqueray

Our unnamed bartender protagonist in the latest Tanqueray spot from Sundance/Mother says things like, “there’s nothing better than making a great drink for someone, putting a smile on their face.” He’s corny and sentimental, yet he has a great mustache, so we’ll give him a free pass. He is, as the ad’s title suggests, an unsung hero: part blue-collar working man, and part trendy wannabe in his black vest ensemble. Whatever he is, he’s a lot different in tone than the goofy Tony Sinclair. Sinclair was always too flamboyant to be anyone’s unsung hero.

This new spot is a test run for Sundance, as the channel hopes to add more branded content in the near future. Plans are already in motion for roundtable discussions with agency writers talking about creating Geico ads. A lot is being done in-house, offering a glimpse at how advertising will continue to evolve.
