Facebook's new offer to advertisers: Safe videos at lower prices

Facebook is giving brands assurances that their commercials will only run in a thoroughly vetted video environment as part of a new program that focuses on premium content. The new ad offering is also coming down in price since Facebook first started testing the program earlier this year.

Facebook is asking brands for $100,000, down from at least $250,000, to participate in the tightly controlled, guaranteed quality video marketplace, according to advertisers familiar with the program. The commercials appear in Facebook Watch, the year-old video service that features shows like “Ball in the Family,” a reality show about the basketball-playing Ball brothers. There are also shows from publishers and TV studios, and Facebook splits ad revenue with them.

Now, advertisers can buy ad space directly from Facebook, not through the programmatic, automated self-service platform, and that way it can place ads in videos it has reviewed. Facebook calls the new offering “in-stream reserve buying,” and it’s a rival ad product to Google Preferred, a similar program that commits to only run ads in the top videos on Google and YouTube. Facebook also now allows brands to buy ads in individual Watch shows, and pick categories of videos to sponsor like sports, .

Alex Bogusky at Advertising Week: 'All our wounds are self inflicted'

Alex Bogusky’s coming out since returning to CP&B was typically atypical.

Bogusky appeared at an Advertising Week panel in the form of mannequin wearing a “Good enough sucks” t-shirt and with a TV for a head. The TV streamed video of Bogusky, who was named CP&B’s chief creative engineer in August after an eight-year absence.

“I left the building eight years ago and it was like going into a coma and waking up eight years later,” Bogusky said through the TV. “I walked out and walked into a completely different place.”

Advertising Week Day 3: Alex Bogusky's head and how to become a legend

Will Smith says you can be a legend

A round of cheers went up from today’s Advertising Week audience when actor Will Smith told attendees — who live and die by metrics — to have the courage to ignore the data if your instinct tells you otherwise. “Nothing is more valuable than your gut,” Smith says. “The metrics are there to help you train your gut because at the end of the day you have to make the call on the extraordinary. The metrics keep you in the ordinary. The thing that succeeds is going to be way outside what somebody even thought was possible.” Often, he says that means “You’ve got to make a call when everybody says no. That’s the one that makes you a legend.” — Garett Sloane

Quem diria que Adam McKay, o diretor por trás dos dois capítulos da saga “O Âncora: A Lenda de Ron Burgundy”, se tornaria um cineasta de comédias políticas com interesse na temporada de prêmios? Dunkin' and Oreo take to Twitter for new product announcement

It’s not the first time the brands have collaborated — evidence donuts made with Oreos, Oreo-flavored drinks, and even Dunkin’ Donuts mocha-flavored Oreo cookies. Fans of both brands were excited about their possible return, particularly Oreo-flavored iced coffee, which was initially released in 2015.

The Twitter effort was meant to seem chatty but often came across as a bit calculated, including some posts with detailed illustrations of mock products.

But it became less fun after stories about a Dunkin’ Donuts worker dumping water on a man resting at a table at one of its Syracuse locations, an incident that was captured on video, began circulating. Some people responding to what should have been a fun little Twitter chat between Oreo and Dunkin brought up the incident.
