We learn to look after ourselves and be there for our beloved ones. We learn from the most important person we have. By the very first word that we speak: Mummy.”

Hermes Pardini: Flower of Life

In a region with no cell signal, no roads and no internet, it’s hard for women to be reminded every year about the pap test. So we developed the “Flower of Life”. A kind of cattleya that blooms once a year and everytime it does, reminds Amazonian women it’s time for the pap test against cervical cancer. An initiative led by Grupo Hermes Pardini with the support of the Pará State Department of Health, a state with 3 more cases of the disease than the average in Brazil.

Record labels reap more than $1 billion selling Spotify stakes

Two of the three major record labels stand to gain more than $1 billion after selling stakes in Spotify Technology SA, the streaming music company that went public last month.

Warner Music Group sold 75 percent of its stake in Spotify for approximately $400 million, CEO Steve Cooper said on a call with analysts Monday. Sony’s record label has sold about half of its stake for $750 million, according to a regulatory filing.

Spotify has proven to be a boon for the record labels, even as they remain a shadow of their former selves. Royalty checks from the streaming service have helped boost music-industry sales three years in a row.

Microsoft and Amazon show off their Alexa-Cortana collaboration

Microsoft and Amazon may be competing with each other in the cloud-computing market, but in the realm of voice-controlled personal assistants, Cortana and Alexa are forging a friendship.

On Monday, the two companies showed the fruits of a collaboration announced last August to let Amazon’s Alexa and Microsoft’s Cortana talk to each other. In a demonstration, Cortana executive Megan Saunders used Alexa to order milk and then had the assistant wake Cortana to check her schedule and send email.

Then Alexa Senior VP Tom Taylor demonstrated using Cortana at work to check on his restaurant reservation before asking Cortana to raise Alexa to order an Uber. Alexa even declared that she likes Cortana.

Watch the newest ads on TV from Geico, Wells Fargo, Dos Equis and more

Every weekday we bring you the Ad Age/iSpot Hot Spots, new TV commercials tracked by iSpot.tv, the real-time TV ad measurement company with attention and conversion analytics from more than eight million smart TVs. The ads here ran on national TV for the first time over the weekend.

A few highlights: Geico serves up a fresh cut of a comical ad starring pro golfer Daniel Berger and his (fictional) distant cousin Dougal (various version of this campaign have previously run online and on TV). Wells Fargo says that it’s working to earn back your trust (it doesn’t get specific about its recent troubles, but here’s a taste via Politico: “Wells Fargo slammed with $1B fine”). And Shaquille O’Neal helps JC Penney hype its selection of men’s “big & tall” fashions.
