Road Safety Authority Ireland: Signs

Motorcyclists are 6 times more likely to be killed on or roads than any other road user.

Why? Well, there’s a rebellious streak in them, they like going fast, and they absolutely hate being told what to do. That’s why they ride a bike in the first place.

This spot examines what it means to hate being told what to do. And if you won’t take it from us, take it from those who’ve lost their lives on two wheels before you.

Virgin Media: Steamy windows

Gone are the days of entertainment contracts you’re locked into for years. Virgin’s new 30-Day contracts mean you can come and go as you please. Be a little more promiscuous with your TV and Broadband provider.

Cat and Chick Are ‘Best Friends’ in adam&eveDDB’s New Spot for Dreamies Cat Treats

Earlier this week we learned just how stupid rich adam&eve DDB founders James MurphyDavid GoldingBen Priest and Jon Forsyth are, following the agency’s sale to Omnicom and a five-year, uncapped earn-out period.

The agency recently launched a new spot for cat treat brand Dreamies, featuring an adorable and unlikely animal duo. And who doesn’t love cross-species animal friendships?

“Best Friends” opens on a cat and a chick walking through the woods, never straying far from each others’ side. The cat finds its way home, chick following closely behind and is let in for a drink of water before taking a nap and venturing out again. Together the pair runs from a dog, chases butterflies and watches the sunset. By now, you’ve likely grown attached to the dynamic duo (unless you’re some sort of inhuman monster), which perfectly sets up a surprise ending showing why you should make sure your cat is well-stocked with Dreamies Deli-Catz treats.

The spot nails the aww factor with its two adorable co-stars and finds the perfect soundtrack for its action, before sending the whole thing crashing down with its perfectly-timed comedic twist. While some may find the approach a bit shocking, cat owners should be familiar with their felines propensity for homicide. After all, these are some of nature’s fiercest killers and The Mammal Society put U.K. housecats’ estimated kill count at some 92 million per year. So, truth in advertising?

Minnesota Twins Name Carmichael Lynch as Agency of Record

As the Minnesota Twins celebrate a 16-0 blowout of the San Diego Padres attempt to lock in the second AL Wild Card spot, Minnesota agency Carmichael Lynch has a win of its own to announce.

The MLB team named the Minneapolis as its new agency or record, following a review, ending a 13-year relationship with fellow Twin Cities shop Periscope.

When Periscope was first named AOR back in September of 2004, the account was valued at an estimated $1 million per year. It’s unclear if the business still approaches that estimation, as the Twins organization has taken more of its advertising work in-house in recent years.

Carmichael Lynch will be tasked with handling creative, brand strategy, media planning and buying for the Twins, with the assignment encompassing TV, radio, experiential, website, digital display and collateral design.

“The Minnesota Twins are thrilled to be in partnership with Carmichael Lynch as we collectively work to grow our brand and develop deeper connections with our fans and community,” Twins president and CEO Dave St. Peter said in a statement. “All of us with the Twins are excited to be working with the talented and experienced Carmichael Lynch team and look forward to the creation of great work that engages Twins Territory.”

“As our hometown team, helping tell the Twins’ story and rallying their fans means a lot to us as an agency,” added Carmichael Lynch CEO Marcus Fischer. “This is an exciting opportunity to bring a cohesive idea and strategy to life across all disciplines and build on the team’s momentum. We’re looking forward to the work ahead.”

The assignment is effective immediately and Carmichael Lynch’s first work for the Twins is expected to launch at the start of the 2018 MLB season.

Anna Kendrick Tries to Charm You Into Watching Hulu in Spacey New Ads

Anna Kendrick tends to put on a charm offensive in most advertising in which she appears (except, famously, for Newcastle, where she skipped the charm in favor, jokingly, of the offensive). Now, the 32-year-old Oscar and Tony nominee is going to bat for Hulu in a series of 30-second set pieces (which will air nationally…

Dove Spotlights Shonda Rhimes-Led Crew in Emmys Ad

Ads don’t often focus on the people who make the ads, but Dove will spend the early part of its 60-second ad on Sunday’s CBS Emmys broadcast highlighting the 100 percent female production crew behind the work, led by Shonda Rhimes.

“Tonight as television honors women on screen and behind the scenes, so do we,” the commerical crows.

Along with getting the writer and producer of such hits as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” to make ads though its Real Beauty Productions, the Unilever brand always intended to go with an entirely female crew. But Unilever VP of U.S. Skin Cleansing and Baby Care Nick Soukas says he didn’t talk about that when the initiative launches this spring, frankly because he wasn’t sure the brand could pull it off. “It’s actually harder to do than it sounds,” he says. Besides Rhimes as creative director, the crew is led by documentary filmmaker Liz Grabus as director.

Automotive Marketing: Shifting Gears in a Slowing Market

After a record-shattering 2016, automakers are dealing with the difficult task of maintaining or growing volume and margins in a market that is expected to decline by 6 percent or more from last year’s high.

Inventories are on the rise, prompting car companies to try and boost sales through their standard marketing strategies of increasing advertising and improving purchase incentives, such as cash rebates, lease offers and low-cost loans. Yet those strategiesif executed in the usual waymay not deliver more than the usual results, causing a negative impact on residual values and brand equity.

Although unit sales might have hit a peak in 2016, the months and years ahead are expected to be strong by historical standards. However, to avoid a sharp decline in top- and bottom-line results, marketers should make more effective use of digital channels and tools to optimize spend per vehicle and more precisely target buyers with a higher propensity to close.

Texas Grocery Chain's 'Disaster Relief' Campaign Makes the Viral Video Chart

The usual suspects of our weekly look at brands’ most-viewed video campaigns, marketers such as Samsung and LG, are joined this time around by H-E-B, the Texas-based grocery chain. Its “Disaster Relief” campaign accumulated 8.9 million views with scenes of flooding in Houston following Hurrican Harvey.

As always, our chart includes both paid ad views and organic views initiated by consumers. It also excludes movie and video game previews.
