Watch the Newest Ads on TV From Beats, Gatorade, Nike and More

Every weekday, we bring you the Ad Age/iSpot Hot Spots, new and trending TV commercials tracked by iSpot.tv, the real-time TV ad measurement company with attention and conversion analytics from 10 million smart TVs. The New Releases here ran on TV for the first time yesterday. The Most Engaging ads are ranked by digital activity (including online views and social shares) over the past week.

Among the new releases, a cartoon version of a basketball superstar is the focus of the latest Jordan commercial (Creativity’s Alexandra Jardine has the backstory: “Jordan Brand Pays Homage to NBA MVP Russell Westbrook With ‘Schoolhouse Rock’-Style Animated Film”). And skateboarding looms large — twice: In a Nike ad, Kobe Bryant sings the praises of legendary skateboarder Paul Rodriguez, whose Paul Rodriguez Ten signature shoe will be released on July 1. And in a moody, cinematic spot, Beats follows pro skaters Louie Lopez, Leticia Bufoni, Luan Oliveira, Sean Malto, Felipe Gustavo and Tommy Fynn on their way to the Super Crown 2017.

Gatorade – "Defeat" (2017) :60 (USA)

Gatorade’s “Make Defeat Your Fuel” campaign demonstrates that even the world’s most accomplished athletes may experience the feeling of failure at some point in their career, which can help fuel future success. It’s a reminder that defeat can fuel athletes to get back on the court or field and mentally prepare to train harder, get stronger, practice longer, come back and perform better. The ad features some of sports’ most recognizable names including Michael Jordan, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Serena Williams, JJ Watt, Karl-Anthony Towns, Kyle Schwarber and Matt Ryan, all sharing their individual motivations. Can we all take a moment to admire how good Serena Williams looks in this ad, with her more-than-super-determined face? Cut+Run’s Steve Gandolfi & Luc Giddens edited, so that everything looks sharp.

Sanlam: Uk’shona Kwelanga

Uk’shona Kwelanga is a uniquely produced series written by one of South Africa’s leading scriptwriters, Bongi Ndaba. Taking place entirely within WhatsApp it follows a family’s conversation in real-time, highlighting the drama families go through when preparing for a funeral, particularly when money is tight. The drama features a number of well-known local actors and was created by the King James Group, a leading independent advertising agency.

The plot follows the sudden and unexpected death of Bab’ Langa, which leaves the family shocked and saddened. When they set up a WhatsApp group to plan the funeral of the much-loved elder, tensions soon start to rise as they face financial pressure, family secrets and unanswered questions. Will they have enough money to give Bab’ Langa the funeral he deserves?

Sanlam chose WhatsApp because it is a medium most of its market uses, and an ideal opportunity to shift into a new space of entertainment and immediacy.

Here’s To Modelo’s Fighting Spirit

With no more interesting man to lean on, Dos Equis has lost its mojo. Corona never had much mojo to begin with. Which brings us to the Mexican beer of the moment—Modelo Especial. Invisible Subway Train Freaks Out Riders in This Great, Ghostly Ad Prank

Here’s a freaky little ad stunt from Spanish agency Shackleton. The agency installed loudspeakers and hidden cameras in the busiest subway station in Madrid, and then played sounds that accurately reproduced those of an arriving train–the train approaching and braking, the doors opening and closing, the train leaving the station. But the passengers couldn’t see…
