Posted in: UncategorizedFacebook's Mobile Ad Revenue Soars to $2.9 Billion
Posted in: UncategorizedMany digital media companies have seen their ad revenues decline as their audiences have shifted to smaller screens. Not Facebook.
Three years after the social network started running ads on its mobile properties, mobile advertising accounted for 76% of Facebook’s $3.8 billion in second-quarter advertising revenue, which was up 43% year-over-year. Facebook may have started as a desktop site, but it’s become a mobile company from a business and product perspective as it continues to grow its audience, particularly on mobile.
“This quarter was our fastest community growth we’ve had in two years,” said Facebook’s COO Sheryl Sandberg in an interview with Ad Age before the company’s earnings call on Wednesday afternoon.
Paradigm Talent Agency Enters Partnership With Windish
Posted in: UncategorizedTwitter might delete "copyrighted jokes", but a photographer still has to sue
Posted in: UncategorizedWrong. It’s not working at all, says photographer Kristen Pierson who has the brass ovaries to file suit against Twitter in Los Angeles to make them obey their own stated DMCA procedure. Whoo! Her suit filed in Los Angeles District Court is alleging that the social network has ignored repeated requests to take down an image she snapped of musician Herman Li. The photograph of Herman Li was meant for commercial-use only, and while Pierson is happy to licence said image to publications, she says the photo was being passed around twitter without proper attribution or license.
Pierson’s lawyers claim in the suit that: “Twitter had actual knowledge of the Infringing Uses. Pierson provided notice to Twitter in compliance with the DMCA, and Twitter failed to expeditiously disable access to or remove the Infringing Uses. ” the suits adds “Twitter acted willfully.” and “Alternatively, Twitter directly infringed Pierson’s copyrights by continuing to allow public access to the Infringing Uses on Twitter’s server or on servers controlled by Twitter, or through access controlled by Twitter to servers controlled by third parties.”
This will be fun, you can’t just have a DMCA takedown pretend-to-honor-it button, you’re actually supposed to honor it, Twitter.

Report: Digital Media Siphons $1 Billion from TV
Posted in: UncategorizedCORRECTION: This story originally referred to digital video as siphoning away money from the national TV market when it should have referred more broadly to digital media.
Over the course of the 2014-15 broadcast season, digital media siphoned off more than $1 billion from the national TV market, with the vast majority of those dollars being drained out of the Big Four networks.

Posted in: UncategorizedOver the course of the 2014-15 broadcast season, digital video siphoned off more than $1 billion from the national TV market, with the vast majority of those dollars being drained out of the Big Four networks.
According to new research from Standard Media Index, about $1.1 billion in national TV spend was rerouted to digital, of which a staggering 87%, or $960 million, was plundered from broadcast. SMI tracked agency investments over a nine-month period spanning October to June, an interval that more or less corresponds with the broadcast calendar.
While the shift to digital accounts for a portion of the 8% annual decline in broadcast spend, endogenous factors (ratings declines, a weak fall scatter market, tricky year-to-year comps) played a role as well. For example, NBC’s coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics generated $1.1 billion in ad revenue, while ESPN’s stewardship of the FIFA World Cup netted $529 million in sales.
