Posted in: UncategorizedCan Mondelez, Facebook Sell More Cookies Online?
Posted in: UncategorizedMondelez International has struck a new deal with Facebook that the Oreo maker says will help it crack the code for selling more cookies online.
The pact renews a one-year global strategic partnership announced in March of 2014 that covered 52 countries and gave the snacks and candy marketer access to Facebook’s beta testing programs. The new arrangement also covers 52 countries and will “focus on creating and delivering creative video content and driving impulse snack purchasing online,” according to a statement issued on Tuesday.
Mondelez declined to release terms of the new deal but a spokeswoman said it is “significantly larger” than last year’s deal. The arrangement was brokered by Dentsu Aegis Media.
Don't Use Leftovers: Three Brands Doing Great Instagram Content
Posted in: UncategorizedI’ve always had a soft spot for Instagram, which stoked my love for disruption and innovation by founding on the day that Kodak filed for bankruptcy. Instagram was the new kid on the block — emulating the iconic square crop of the once-great Poloraid, while simultaneously punting former industry giants back to the 1980s to help usher in a new era in digital photography and social media.
And because of its penchant for disrupting the visual content space, I want to see Instagram remain fresh. The new video advertising capabilities the service is unfurling and the solid user numbers they boast and continue to build upon are the kind of developments that make marketing departments rethink their entire communications plan. But these kinds of numbers also cause companies to spend and create recklessly without a strategy — potentially overplaying their Instagram opportunity and turning their brand stale.
What’s new with Instagram for brand marketing?
Verizon's Internet TV Service May Let Brands Sponsor Your Binge-Watching
Posted in: UncategorizedVerizon appears poised to let brands sponsor your TV watching.
Sometime this summer Verizon will launch in the U.S. an ad-supported TV service delivered via the internet. The service will feature live and on-demand programming as well as programming from digital video networks like AwesomenessTV, Verizon Exec VP-President of Product Innovation and New Business Marnie Walden said during a conference call Tuesday morning to announce the close of its AOL acquisition.
She referred to the service — whose underlying technology Verizon acquired from Intel — as a “mobile-first video product.”
Internal Memo: DigitasLBi Boston/Detroit President Leaves for CVS Gig
Posted in: UncategorizedNorman de Greve, the DigitasLBi veteran named president of its Boston and Detroit offices just under one year ago, has left the agency for a gig as chief marketing officer at CVS Health.
de Greve joined the ad world after a stint as an investment manager/consultant working for (among others) Corporate Decisions, Inc., which is a spinoff of the Bain Capital made famous by one Mitt Romney.
He became a Digitas employee in 2001 and gradually made his way up the company ladder, holding the SVP, VP/GD and EVP/chief solutions officer titles before his promotion last July. Coincidentally, de Greve replaced departing DigitasLBi President and “huge Harley fan” Barbara Goose, who left for her own CMO position at Boston-based “digital innovation technology” provider Altisource.
At the time of his hire, de Greve was to “manage the growth of the 800-plus employee region while steering strategy for such clients as Cessna, General Motors, Lenovo and PUMA”; he reported directly to North American CEO Tony Weisman.
Here’s the internal memo from Weisman, which includes no word on de Greve’s replacement.
Folks,
After 14 years at DigitasLBi, Norman de Greve (President, Boston-Detroit) has decided to leave the agency and pursue an exciting new opportunity at CVS Health as its CMO (Chief Marketing Officer). Wow.
This was not an easy decision for Norman to make (and candidly, not an easy one for us to receive). Yet, nothing worth doing is. And if there is a trait that is signature Norman, it’s his bravery. He is a rare breed of person and professional, commanding equal and remarkable doses of EQ and IQ. While of course we are bummed that we will no longer see Norman in our halls (or at least not as an employee), let me be clear that I couldn’t be happier for him. We are proud that he has called DigitasLBi his professional home for over a decade. The diversity of experiences and reinvention opportunities he has had with us have helped empower Norman to take on this bold new challenge.
Norman has already started a transition. His official last day is July 14th and he begins his new role at CVS Health on July 15th. He will be based in the CVS Health HQ’s in Woonsocket, RI reporting to EVP, CVS Health and President, CVS/pharmacy Helena Foulkes (who was on our NewFront stage in 2014 for CVS’ bravery in banning tobacco sales).
Let me also be clear that the Boston-Detroit region is more focused than ever. Norman will be the first to proudly state that the regional leadership stands strong and tall. Working with the ELT, I am taking this time (and opportunity) to quickly and thoughtfully assess our leadership needs.
Whatever decisions are made the Boston-Detroit region is set up for success thanks to its great leadership. More victories await this team, and our agency.
And to Norman: we are united in our best wishes to you across every dimension of your professional and personal life and well-being. Now go kick butt and we demand that you stay in touch.

Posted in: UncategorizedAlibaba will sell its U.S. website 11 Main to rival online marketplace OpenSky, with merchants saying they grew disenchanted with the Chinese company’s first experiment in American e-commerce.
Alibaba Group Holding will hold a stake in the combined entity, according to an e-mailed statement Tuesday. The boutique website sought to replicate a Main Street niche-store shopping experience.
China’s biggest e-commerce operator started 11 Main last year, envisioning a shop window for small-time U.S. merchants that could present an alternative to the mass-consumer facing Amazon and Ebay. Furniture retailer Lishu Rodriguez joined 11 Main expecting Alibaba’s name would buy visibility before quitting the site; Joel Young stopped selling months ago after shoppers failed to materialize.

Posted in: UncategorizedChevrolet Just Wrote a Press Release Entirely in Emojis. Can You Decode It?
Posted in: Uncategorized
We may be nearing peak emoji, as Chevrolet has become the latest brand to play around with the familiar icons—writing a press release almost entirely in emojis to announce something (who knows what?) about the Chevy Cruze.
The automaker explains: “Words alone can’t describe the new 2016 Chevrolet Cruze, so to celebrate its upcoming reveal, the media advisory is being issued in emoji, the small emotionally expressive digital images and icons in electronic communication.”
Chevy is challenging people to decode it. You can see the whole thing below. Or you can wait until 2 p.m. EDT today, when it will be decoded for you. The hashtag—because emojis sometimes just aren’t enough—is #ChevyGoesEmoji.
