FCB Zürich Presents ‘Hearing Test Concert’ for Neuroth

While, according to the World Health Organization, hearing loss affects nearly 360 million people worldwide, getting hearing tests isn’t very high on most peoples’ lists of health priorities. It doesn’t help that hearing tests aren’t exactly a pleasant experience. But what if testing your hearing was enjoyable? That’s the idea behind FCB Zürich’s “Hearing Test Concert” for Austrian hearing aid company Neuroth.

The event featured an orchestra performing a version of Beethoven’s fifth symphony “specifically arranged to simulate the high-and-low frequencies and loud-and-silent parts of a traditional hearing test.” Members of the audience were given a card and marked down when they had trouble hearing certain frequencies. During the intermission, audience members could then show their card to a Neuroth audiologist and receive a personal consultation. In just one day, the campaign resulted in 1,100 people voluntarily taking a hearing test (and, presumably, actually enjoying it).

Daily Mail Used a Steak House's Photo to Illustrate a (Probably Fake) Story on Cannibalism

Sure, it can be hard to find a good photo to illustrate an article about cannibalism, but that’s really no excuse for trying to pass off a restaurant’s steak as man-meat.

The owner of London’s Hawksmoor steak house understandably took issue with British tabloid The Daily Mail using a photo of his (quite lovely) chateaubriand to illustrate a story about a supposed restaurant serving human meat in Nigeria.

Snopes has cast doubts on the cannibalism story’s validity, and The Daily Mail today removed the article.

As for Hawksmoor owner Will Beckett, he seems to be taking the fiasco in stride. He sent a statement to several news outlets noting: “For clarity’s sake we don’t serve human flesh, there are no severed heads in our kitchen, and we’ve never even been nominated for ‘Nigeria’s Best Restaurant’ or ‘Cannibal Menu of the Year’.”

Upfront Battle Royale: Fall's 6 Hottest Time Slots

Now that the last scrumptious canap has been freed from its silver serving tray and all the complimentary top-shelf hooch has been locked away for another year, it’s time to assess the fall broadcast TV schedule. The networks have locked in 43 new scripted series for the 2015-16 season, of which 21 are set to premiere in the fall — where they’ll be fighting for their very lives. (If precedent is anything to go by, at least three of these newcomers will be canceled before Halloween. Bummer, huh?) Here’s a look at the six time slots that promise to offer the most rip-snortin’ competition.

Mullen Lowe Appoints Lee Newman U.S. CEO

The newly formed Mullen Lowe, the result of IPG merging Mullen with Lowe earlier this month, appointed Lee Newman as its U.S. CEO, AdAge reports. He will be based in Los Angeles and report to Mullen Lowe Global CEO Alex Leikikh, while overseeing former Mullen offices in Boston, Los Angeles and North Carolina and what was Lowe’s New York office. The appointment follows Mullen Lowe (who pitched as Mullen) being named lead creative agency for Royal Caribbean last week.

Newman joins Mullen Lowe from Ogilvy Chicago, where he has served as president for the past three years. AdAge reports that Ogilvy Chicago has not named a successor and that Newman’s responsibilities will be handled by Chairman-CEO Jack Rooney.

Prior to joining Ogilvy, he served a four year stint as managing director of W+K Amsterdam. While with W+K Amstedam, the agency’s clients included Coca-Cola, Nike, Heineken and P&G. Before his stin with W+K Amsterdam, Newman spent time with McKinney & Silver and then GSD&M in the roles of senior vice president, group account director. His time at McKinney & Silver followed over five and a half years with Fallon as an account director. He jumped to that role following over four years as a media supervisor/account executive with Leo Burnett.

“Lee is a great find for our U.S. network,” Leikikh said, in a statement. “He has a terrific creative pedigree with his Fallon and Wieden experience, coupled with significant operational experience running Ogilvy Chicago and Wieden’s Amsterdam office. What’s more, he has over a decade of luxury automotive experience on BMW and Audi, which means our Acura clients will benefit immediately from his expertise.”

North American CCO Leaves Rosetta

Alex Mahernia, promoted to the North American chief creative officer role at Rosetta in 2013 before it became one with Razorfish, left the agency earlier this month.

An internal memo from November 2014 which announced Publicis’ plans to fold Rosetta into the Razorfish Global Network also confirmed the departure of then-Global CCO Lars Bastholm (who is now a global CCO at Google’s The Zoo). The implication, according to tipsters, was that Mahernia would replace him.

It was not meant to be. While Mahernia was not mentioned in tips regarding a series staffing changes that affected the Rosetta/Razorfish group in April, other sources claimed that he would not be running the agency’s creative operations–which would instead be organized on a regional basis with Mahernia reporting to CTO Joe Lozito.

In April, a Rosetta spokesperson told us that the shop was hiring to fill dozens of open positions; it does not appear to have a global or North American creative director at the moment.

From the agency:

We can confirm that Alex Mahernia has left the agency to pursue other career opportunities. Alex has played an enormous role in our growth – over the last 16 years, he led and significantly influenced our creative, UX, design and VMG teams and helped develop a number of world–class offerings while cultivating the growth and development of the industry’s brightest creative talent. We are grateful to Alex for all he has given to our business and wish him great luck in his future endeavors. He’s an extraordinary individual, and we’ve been lucky to have him in our family.

From Mahernia himself:

“I am beyond grateful for my career and the opportunity to work with such an amazing and talented group. There is no doubt in my mind that Rosetta will continue to strive and succeed for many years to come, and will always have a very special place in my heart. Most importantly, I have truly enjoyed my personal relationships with every single individual and continue to believe in the talent and the absolute magic and passion each person brings to work every day. I am humbled by Rosetta’s brilliance and look forward to witnessing the agency’s success in the future.”

Prior to joining Rosetta in 2011, Mehernia served as CCO at California’s LEVEL Studios.

While neither statement addresses the now-former CCO’s future plans, he may have revealed his new employer on Twitter: business management software company Mindbody.
