Telia – Playing Apart / Gothenburg symphony Orchestra playing live remotely

Telia - Playing Apart / Gothenburg symphony Orchestra playing live remotely
You know all the ads that attempt to catch “Swedishness” recently? This one actually has it, when the conductor worries about how it will work in his understated way: “I’ll be here at nine… and then we’ll see”, and the sysadmin (I’m guessing) who calls someone to discuss the problem of having musicians “out in the middle of nowhere” playing together over the mobile network. This unique experiment and a partnership between Telia and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra also shows the variety of Sweden. Sweden is the third-largest country in the EU by area, and since it stretches from noth to south one violinist stands on snow drenched mountains while two others sit on a sunny cliff-beach down south.

Orchestral music operates with margins of hundredths of a second. The transmission of sound is absolutely crucial, even the slightest delay would get them out of sync. But this was only one of the challenges, for it to be an enjoyable concert the sound had to be high quality and they needed instant HD quality images as well.
Everyone who has ever worked from home or a remote area knows the pain of slow connections hampering your ability to do work – “Digitisation is key to the strength of Swedish companies in the face of competition. This is why we are investing billions in the expansion of both fixed and mobile networks – primarily 4G and fibre – all over the country over a number of years,” says Malin Frenning, CEO of Telia in Sweden.
The members of the orchestra were then sent to five different places in Sweden: Åreskutan in Jämtland, Slottsskogen in Skåne and Smögen in Bohuslän were a few of them. Everyone involved was aware that everything had to work perfectly to produce a good enough result for a classical concert.

“The musicians had to be able to hear the sound with absolutely no delay – easier said than done when they are more than 600 kilometres apart. And the quality of the audio and visuals had to be high enough to present the audience at Gothenburg Concert Hall with a realistic musical experience. These were two major challenges, and Telia did an absolutely fantastic job,” said a very pleased Jörgen Odh of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.

ZocDoc – "Rabies"- (2015) :30 (USA)

You know how this works, you need to see the doctor and the next available appointment is three weeks from now. This woman claims to have rabies hoping to get an appointment sooner. “I’m sorry, it’s just I’m scared.. I’ve never foamed at the mouth before” Quite funny, but the pain of getting in to the doctor isn’t always so amusing which is why ZocDoc created an app that helps you find and schedule medical appointments easier.

ZocDoc – "Private Call" / Round circular dots – (2015) :30 (USA)

You know how awkward it gets when you have to call to make an appointment at the doctor, and describe your symptoms, while you’re in your open plan office? Ah yes, that’s why ZocDoc created an app and allow you to schedule online.

Get better, better.

I have to admit, I love that line.

Flock of Sheep in Tuscan Fields Photography

Olive Garden – Home (Home videos) (2015) :30 (USA)

Olive Garden - Home (Home videos) (2015) :30 (USA)
How do you sell unlimited bowls of pasta and breadsticks? With emotion. Real emotion, the kind you find in real footage, because it’s actually darned difficult to direct something with as much emotion as this. It also serves as a double-viral possibility as the families in the ad will pass it along to their friends. The edit puts together a young girl’s singing, “I’m gonna be a grandma” Ma, and “the day I passed math” Dad’s over-joyed reactions to their children’s news. Babies laughing – which is always amazing – , soldiers returning home, kisses and hugs all around to explain what home really is. Home is family. Home is love. Home is more family. And if all of this emotion leaves you a little verklempt, you know where to go and get comfort food. Since Olive Garden targets families with their appeals to everyone (but Italians) Italian food, this ad makes a lot of sense.

This mix of youtube clips ad-idea is getting so common now that I’m just waiting for the day directors and editors will be shunned all together and creatives can just edit straight on youtube their next campaign. It’ll happen soon.

The Selfish Consumer: Everyone Wins?

Category: Beyond Madison Avenue
Summary: America is made up of a large amount of consumers who operate on an age-old economic theory — the notion that the business world (and therefore, society) can thrive when we all pursue our own self-interest.

Yes; that the best thing we can do for each other is to satisfy our own needs and wants as best as we can.

For the most part, we’ve been okay with that sentiment.

But there is more to that theory.

Sprint Names Canadian Broadcast Exec Kevin Crull CMO

Sprint has named Kevin Crull its new chief marketing officer.

Mr. Crull, a Canadian media and broadcast executive, will be responsible for all products and services, advertising, customer acquisition and retention, and all digital and social efforts, according to a statement. He’ll report to President-CEO Marcelo Claure and will relocate to Kansas City, Mo., where Sprint’s headquarters are.

Mr. Crull’s most recent position as president-CEO of Bell Media, Canada’s largest media and broadcasting company, ended in April 2015, when he stepped down after admitting he tried to influence coverage by one of Bell’s subsidiaries, CTV.
