Vogue Paris has married nostalgia with modern fashion in a photo series of models posed as luxury fashion dolls—in their store packaging. Stunning and creepy. Simultaneously beautiful and the stuff of nightmares.

Each brand is represented thoughtfully—the luxury Italian brand Moschino with all pink and poodle hair; Louis Vuitton, which will put an LV logo on anything; the Valentino doll is Zooey Deschanel’s life in a box; Ralph Lauren looks like a gilded flight attendant; Saint Laurent, IDK, there are roller skates and a guitar; and the ultra-feminine Chanel, I can smell the No. 5 from here.

Xiaomi Moves Into Higher End of Phone Market With New Devices


Xiaomi Corp. released its biggest, most expensive smartphones as the Chinese manufacturer challenges Samsung Electronics Corp. and Apple Inc. at the higher end of the mobile-device market.

The 5.7-inch Xiaomi Note debuts Jan. 27 for $371, Chief Executive Officer Lei Jun said at a press conference in Beijing today. The device is bigger, lighter and thinner than Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus and has a curved glass display, he said. A second device, the Note Pro, will sell for $533.

After building Xiaomi into the world’s third-largest smartphone vendor in less than five years, Lei has set his sights on overtaking Samsung and Apple within a decade. To achieve that goal, he’s investing in startups that can provide hardware, software and services that complement its devices.

How Pepsi, the Pope and a Politician Wound Up Together on Billboards


Ahead of Pope Francis’ visit to the Philippines, odd billboards popped up on roadsides showing a photo of the religious leader, the Pepsi logo and a greeting. “Welcome His Holiness Pope Francis,” they proclaimed.

The billboards concluded with a message from a local politician: “Greetings from Brgy Chairman Felibus ‘FPJ’ Papa Jr,” according to photos shared on social media.

So who was responsible? The bottler did it.

Neste programa, Ivan Mizanzuk, Ana Luiza Koehler e Zamiliano (durante 10 minutos) conversam sobre os atentados que ocorreram na França e toda a campanha que correu pela internet chamada “Je suis Charlie”, em referência aos chargistas do Charlie Hebdo que foram assassinados por terroristas na semana passada. Discutiremos a questão da liberdade de imprensa, os imigrantes muçulmanos na França e por toda a Europa, a xenofobia presente e tentaremos lançar novas luzes nessa tragédia ocorrida. Não buscamos respostas, mas sim um maior aprofundamento nessa situação que não parece se resumir apenas nos “limites do humor”, na liberdade de discurso e nem compreender ou não as atitudes dos assassinos. Ao que tudo indica, o buraco é bem mais embaixo do que tudo isso.

Dr Pepper apresenta um cãozinho que, como o refrigerante, é único

Quem cresceu lendo aos gibis da Turma da Mônica facilmente vai associar o cãozinho que estrela o filme Mop Dog, da Dr Pepper, com Floquinho, grande companheiro do Cebolinha.

Dito isso, a Deutsch LA conseguiu criar um comercial sensível e de fácil identificação ao colocar a marca como uma espécie de coadjuvante para a história de um entregador e sua amizade com um cachorrinho estranho, mas extremamente simpático e, como diz a assinatura da Dr. Pepper, “one of a kind”.

No final das contas, é aquele filme que tem tudo para fazer você sorrir.

Scorsese, De Niro and DiCaprio Finally Team Up for a Film, Which Turns Out to Be an Ad

Martin Scorsese famously has two favorite actors, Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. But De Niro and DiCaprio have never worked on a Scorsese project together—until now.

The trailer below, for a short film called The Audition, stars both actors and the director—and sets up a rivalry between De Niro and DiCaprio, with the two vying for the same acting role. The short film will reportedly be unveiled later this year—and will also feature Brad Pitt, for extra star power.

The catch? The whole thing is an elaborate advertisement for two casino resorts City of Dreams Manila in the Philippines and Studio City Macao in China.

It seems that old rascal Scorsese has gotten De Niro and DiCaprio to venture to Manila and Macao hang out with him at these resorts because these places are “incredible.” As you can imagine, this short has everything: drinking, glamorized gambling and hijinks. Plus, De Niro is menacing and DiCaprio is still sporting that dreadul man-bun-and-beard combo. 

Brett Ratner, a producer on the project, said in a statement: “This short film is a historic event because it is the first film ever to star such legendary actors as Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt in one film together.”

He adds: “The cooperation between Mr. Scorsese and the Melco Crown Entertainment brand is synergistic because of the fact that Mr. Scorsese directed the film Casino starring Robert De Niro. Mr. Scorsese has collaborated with Mr. De Niro on eight films and with Mr. DiCaprio on five films and is working with Mr. Pitt for the first time. Our hope is that the trailer for The Audition gives audiences an early look into what will surely be an important cinematic experience directed by one of the most culturally influential directors in the history of Hollywood films. I look forward to the global premiere of the film at the launch of Studio City in mid-2015.”

Projeto Ara, o smartphone modular do Google, vai chegar em Porto Rico ainda em 2015

Já pensou se ao invés de ter que escolher entre o smartphone top de linha e um mais econômico, você pudesse ir adquirindo melhorias para o seu celular aos pouquinhos?

Essa é uma das possibilidades do Projeto Ara, do Google, que faz do smartphone um aparelho modular, como um computador tradicional, onde você pode melhorar ou trocar peças com grande facilidade, apenas deslizando bloquinhos na parte traseira do aparelho.

Na segunda apresentação do projeto, ocorrida nesta quarta-feira, o Google apresentou um novo protótipo do aparelho, e também anunciou quem serão os primeiros a poder testar o gadget: os porto-riquenhos.

A escolha do país latino-americano se deu pela diversidade de aparelhos entre a sua população, que atualmente está dividida entre celulares básicos (conhecidos como feature phones) e smartphones. Ou seja, uma grande oportunidade para o Google colocar no mercado um smartphone que pode ser tão barato quanto os módulos escolhidos pelos usuários, já que o custo vai variar de acordo com o tipo e quantidade de plaquinhas escolhidas, com a vantagem de permitir um upgrade mais tarde.

Palha de aço, fogo e uma malabarista em uma clareira na floresta. Esses elementos já seriam suficientes para fazer um belo vídeo, mas quando tudo isso é mostrado em câmera lenta reversa o resultado é simplesmente impressionante! O que vemos é quase mágica, como se a mulher estivesse atraindo as chamas com seus malabares.

(E não se preocupem: segundo o diretor Richie Johnston, todas as precauções foram tomadas para não causar nenhum incêndio.)
