De Niro, DiCaprio, Scorsese Star All Star in Casino Ad

Martin Scorsese has famously never created a film featuring both of his two go-to actors — Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio — but the two appear alongside the director in a new ad for Melco Crown Entertainment casino resorts City of Dreams Manila and Studio City Macao called “The Audition.” (According to Truth in Advertising, De Niro and DiCaprio were each payed a handsome $15 million for their appearances, but we’re not sure where they got that figure from.)

A trailer for the full-length video (which will also star Brad Pitt) recently made its debut online. It opens on Scorsese explaining to the pair that no, they won’t finally be working on a project together, but will rather be auditioning for the same role while living it up at the “fabulous” locations. Much drinking, gambling and arguing between the pair of actors on who will get the part ensues. Given the star power of the duo, and the added allure of them never having worked together, it seems a pretty fair bet that this will manage to go viral before the full-length version makes an appearance.

According to Producer Brett Ratner, “The Audition” will makes its debut “at the launch of Studio City in mid-2015.”

Scorsese, De Niro and DiCaprio Finally Team Up for a Film, Which Turns Out to Be an Ad

Martin Scorsese famously has two favorite actors, Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. But De Niro and DiCaprio have never worked on a Scorsese project together—until now.

The trailer below, for a short film called The Audition, stars both actors and the director—and sets up a rivalry between De Niro and DiCaprio, with the two vying for the same acting role. The short film will reportedly be unveiled later this year—and will also feature Brad Pitt, for extra star power.

The catch? The whole thing is an elaborate advertisement for two casino resorts City of Dreams Manila in the Philippines and Studio City Macao in China.

It seems that old rascal Scorsese has gotten De Niro and DiCaprio to venture to Manila and Macao hang out with him at these resorts because these places are “incredible.” As you can imagine, this short has everything: drinking, glamorized gambling and hijinks. Plus, De Niro is menacing and DiCaprio is still sporting that dreadul man-bun-and-beard combo.

Brett Ratner, a producer on the project, said in a statement: “This short film is a historic event because it is the first film ever to star such legendary actors as Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt in one film together.”

He adds: “The cooperation between Mr. Scorsese and the Melco Crown Entertainment brand is synergistic because of the fact that Mr. Scorsese directed the film Casino starring Robert De Niro. Mr. Scorsese has collaborated with Mr. De Niro on eight films and with Mr. DiCaprio on five films and is working with Mr. Pitt for the first time. Our hope is that the trailer for The Audition gives audiences an early look into what will surely be an important cinematic experience directed by one of the most culturally influential directors in the history of Hollywood films. I look forward to the global premiere of the film at the launch of Studio City in mid-2015.”

Brad Pitt Dodges Insults to Make a Charity Pitch on Zach Galifianakis' Between Two Ferns

One of the best things about Between Two Ferns is how the guests have to plug their projects in the least comfortable way possible—indeed, while getting showered with insults.

Brad Pitt is the latest victim, sitting down with Zach Galfianakis to discuss acting, handsomeness, his wife and his ex-wife (well, the character she played on Friends). But he does manage to get the job done—plugging both his new movie and his Make It Right charitable organization.

He gets away mostly unscathed, too.

Colon Cancer Group Raises 314% of Goal With a Public Letter to Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt recently turned 50, so a Belgian nonprofit called Stop Darmkanker, dedicated to ending colon cancer, sent the star a public letter highlighting his greater risk for the disease. Not only was the letter sent to 10 of Pitt's addresses, including that of his production company, but the message was also posted online, where it became a viral hit and helped Stop Darmkanker raise 314% of its goal.

Aside from his star power, Pitt was also probably selected because of his wife's high-profile double mastectomy, which Angelina Jolie underwent in response to finding out how steep her genetic risk for breast cancer was.

Pitt's letter also included a test vial used to check for signs of cancer, though I'm not sure the group did itself any favors by creating instructions that use the phrase "randomly stab the poo."

Martin Agency, Benjamin Moore Make Over Main Streets…with Help from Brad Pitt

“Main Street Matters,” The Martin Agency’s first campaign for Benjamin Moore since winning creative/media duties for the paint brand back in February, celebrates local businesses in the US and Canada. From today until June 30, users can visit paintwhatmatters.com and vote for a town to receive a Benjamin Moore makeover. Painting and renovations will then take place in 20 cities from July until May 2014.

Brad Pitt lends his simpering voiceover (can’t help but think of his Chanel ad) and star power to Benjamin Moore’s video spot, with lines like, “Drug stores that still make milkshakes with real ice cream…matter.” The video–a slideshow of old-timey American storefronts–isn’t exactly scintillating, but of course the idea of supporting local communities hits a soft spot in my small-town girl heart. Using digital outreach to revitalize mom and pop places is a smart, noble idea. I just wish the campaign’s design sense didn’t also need a makeover.

Here are New Ads for the Oakland A’s, an American Professional Baseball Team

Resting on the east side of the San Francisco Bay is Oakland, a small city of just under 400,000 residents.

Best known for its temperate climate, a per capita murder rate twice that of neighboring San Francisco, and having the fifth busiest port in the United States, Oakland is also home to three professional sports teams. Its NFL franchise, nicknamed the “Raiders,” has fallen into disrepair following a period of dominance in the 1970s and 1980s due to poor team management and a myriad of other factors. Its NBA franchise, “The Golden State Warriors,” are best known for being forgotten when one attempts to remember basketball teams based out of California. However it’s Oakland’s Major League Baseball team, the “Athletics” (known colloquially as the “A’s”), that were once featured in an award-winning movie starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill.

As a trio of TV spots from SF-based agency Hub Strategy show, the A’s are beloved for their players’ and coaches’ quirky habits and for their much-attended giveaway nights. In fact, it’s a northern California tradition for fans and non-fans alike to wait outside the team’s Overstock.com Coliseum for days-on-end, with men, women and children alike sacrificing health and happiness for the chance to walk away with a (presumably) green and yellow fleece blanket, coupons for game tickets and meals, or a bobble-head doll of the New York Yankees’ current active special advisor, Reggie Jackson. Watch one more spot (featuring a player named after a popular brand of chocolate breakfast cereal) and view credits after the jump.
