72andSunny, Adam Carolla Prank Kids for Skylanders Stunt

72andSunny teamed up with Adam Carolla to prank children on behalf of Activision’s new game Skylanders Trap Team.

The online spot was filmed at a Glendale, California Toys R’ Us, where Carolla acted as the evil voice trapped within the game’s crystal trap. Unsuspecting kids visiting a demo of the game were surprised by Carolla’s voice, as the evil trapped within, and mostly amused by their interactions with the inanimate object — although one kid was insightful enough to call Carolla “the most annoying person in the world.”

The team at 72andSunny chose selected pieces from their footage and edited it down to a 3:19 video for the online spot. While the rest of us may be a bit jaded by the whole prankvertising approach, the kids involved seemed to be having a blast, and we imagine young Skylanders fans will want to share this one and/or beg their parents to buy them the new game. AMV BBDO Brings Back Mr. Bean for Snickers

AMV BBDO has a new series of ads for Snickers’ ongoing “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” campaign, resurrecting Rowan Atkinson‘s Mr. Bean character.

In the longest of the three broadcast spots, Atkinson’s character finds himself jumping over rooftops with a group of ninjas, in a parody of kung fu movies like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Only, while his colleagues glide gracefully from rooftop to rooftop, Mr. Bean has a bit more trouble and eventually finds himself crashing through the roof to an angry group of warriors below. At this point, one of his fellow ninjas tosses him a Snickers, saying “…you can’t concentrate when you’re hungry, eat a Snickers” and he’s back to his old self.

The character is a perfect fit for the popular “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” approach, and the spots are all pretty entertaining. In the remaining pair (featured after the jump), Atkinson’s character practices nunchucks and kata, with less than stellar results. Atkinson’s character is such a good fit — he’s certainly one of the best celebrities featured in the ongoing campaign — that you almost wonder why he hasn’t been featured before. (more…)

Fire Station Agency Goes ‘Crazy Healthy’ for POM

Fire Station Agency is bringing POM back to TV for the first time in three years, with a new campaign entitled “Crazy Healthy.”

The campaign imagine the antioxidants in POM as various types of warriors, from archers and samurai, to cyclops and dragons. This approach emphasizes the free-radical fighting nature of the antioxidants in pomegranate juice, a key health benefit of the the product. It comes across as an effort to make the brand seem more fun and youthful, while still emphasizing its health benefits. To create the campaign, Fire Station teamed up with director Tarsem Singh and VFX studio Framestore, who helped bring the anti-oxidant fighting warriors to life. (more…)

CP+B Brings World Tour, Aspiring Rappers to Advertising Week

Representing 4 continents, @cpbgroup about to share the work they do across the world #GreatTalent #AWXI pic.twitter.com/Y63J2l7Zh4

— MDC Partners (@MDCPartners) October 2, 2014

CP+ B brought its creative talent to Advertising Week New York from around the globe last week, with none other than Chairman Chuck Porter on hand to emcee a select panel.

While CP+B has a worldwide presence, many of its offices are small. Porter likes it that way; as he noted during the event, strong collaboration between offices works well in serving the agency’s varied clients.

One such location is CP+B’s Copenhagen, Denmark office, which handles the account for III, a brand of headphones used primarily by DJ’s. Mathias Birkvad, CEO of CP+B, Copenhagen, outlined the “how” behind a agency’s creative approach which led to a rap contest that generated lots of media attention.

ACD Dan Peters Leaves SapientNitro for AKQA

akqaA quick update to our post last week on ECD John Carstensdeparture from SapientNitro Chicago: it seems that ACD Dan Peters left the agency at approximately the same time.

Following a West Coast relocation, Peters now fills the same role at AKQA San Francisco.

While the agency has yet to comment, Peters’ LinkedIn page has him leaving Sapient earlier this month after serving as ACD for two and a half years and working on campaigns for clients Harley Davidson, McDonald’s, Dodge and others.

We know him primarily for sending us pics of Sapient’s then-new Chicago digs back in August 2012.

Updates when we get them.

Mr. Bean Is a Hopeless Ninja in the Most Hilarious Snickers 'You're Not You' Ads Yet

You’re familiar with the joke at this point. Someone is super hungry, turns into a celebrity, eats a Snickers and goes back to being a normal person. Punch line: “You’re not you when you’re hungry.”

Now, though, London agency AMV BBDO has made perhaps the best ads yet in the global Snickers campaign, by tapping one of Britain’s most beloved wonky comedians, Rowan Atkinson, better known as Mr. Bean, as the celeb.

If you’re unfamiliar with the work of Mr. Bean, well, first of all, shame on you. But in fact, these hilarious spots might actually serve as a suitable intro to the absurdist comedian’s work. Watch below as the awkwardest man alive tests his mettle as a ninja.

Needless to say, his ninja friends don’t like him when he’s hungry.
