STUDY: Trust is Missing in Agency-Client Relationships

RPA, the indie ad shop in Santa Monica responsible for ‘Farmers (Insurance) University,’ released a Cannes-ready study with USA Today addressing what seems to be the missing ingredient in agency-client relationships: Trust.

Its focus is what trust has to do with the creative process. In short, a good bit. Judy Vogel, vice president of research, Gannett Co., Inc., the parent company of USA Today, says:

“We believe everyone in the industry has a role to play in supporting more honest conversations between agencies and marketers.”

Findings after the jump.

CCO Karen Spiegel Leaves FCB

Today we confirmed that Karen Spiegel is now the former Global Chief Communications Officer at FCB (née draftFCB). She recently left the agency after replacing former EVP/GCCO Wally Peterson only nine months ago.

London-based Stephen Martincic, who has been SVP of communications for several years, is her replacement.

Spiegel is not moving to another agency: she’s launching her own consultancy.

She entered the agency world in 2001, beginning a 12-year stint with R/GA in which she achieved the title of SVP/Managing Director. Longtime readers may recall that Spiegel led former spy Matt Van Hoven on a tour of the shop’s Bauhaus-themed New York office and introduced him to its three-wheeled motorcycle way back in 2009.

No word on the details regarding Spiegel’s new venture; updates as we receive them.

Embroidered Landscapes And Plants

Coluna do The New York Times, Modern Love é dedicada a histórias de amor, não apenas as românticas.

Vale o play.

Mike’s Hard Lemonade Honors One Millionth Fan with Temporary Rebrand

As we mentioned back in April, Mike’s Hard Lemonade has decided to concentrate exclusively on digital advertising, also choosing to shop around for agencies on a project-to-project basis after parting ways with Grey last year. Chicago agency Tris3ct, which also led a recent 15th anniversary spot, worked with the brand to celebrate their one millionth Facebook fan.

To commemorate the milestone, Tris3ct and Mike’s Hard Lemonade developed a 24-hour rebrand to Paul’s in honor of the millionth fan. The brand marked the name change with updated Facebook and Twitter pages, and a revamped website. They also printed out a bunch of Paul’s swag, had a Paul’s cake made and surprised Paul at his place of work to celebrate. Of course, they also documented the whole thing, posting a 90-second video to YouTube and the brand’s Facebook page. You can catch the video above, which marks at least the third effort from the Chicago agency for the brand, starting with “Shandymatic” last summer.

Wearable Tech Comes to Saatchi's New Directors Showcase at Cannes

To get the audience’s heart rate pumping, the show opened with Tatiana Pilieva’s viral hit “Kiss” for fashion brand Wren, in which she threw together complete strangers and invited them to engage in deep lip locks. Among those who appeared in the film were Damian Kulash, lead singer of OK Go, who appeared at last year’s showcase and just released his band’s latest music video.

Other spots included The Sunday Times’ “Icons” ad, directed by Us for Grey London, which merged iconic cultural scenes from Rodin’s “The Thinker” to Don Draper in “Mad Men” in a single seamless in-camera shot, and Alvise Avati’s gorgeously effected space monster spec spot “Beans.”

Music videos in the show included Josh Cole’s gritty depiction of kids in Manila slums for Rudimental’s track “Not Giving In,” which juxtaposed incredible breakdancing with street violence, Truman Cooper’s angsty teen tale for Kid Wise’s “Hope” and Ian & Cooper’s dark family tale for Joel Compass’ “Back to Me.”
