HMV will unveil its new logo and tagline during ‘The X Factor’ this weekend, as it reopens its original Oxford Street store in its bid to rebuild the brand, which was saved from administration in April.
(TrendHunter.com) Color is the theme for the Elle October 2013 starring Zen Savstyanova. The model sports every hue of the rainbow – and then some. Stylist Lori Goldstein outfitted Savstyanova in rich, vibrant…
Features director Ridley Scott famously delivered one of advertising and pop culture’s finest moments with his dark Orwellian treatment to Apple computers in the “1984” Super Bowl commercial. That might be the best-known example of a big-time director lending his name to advertising. But he’s just one of many well-respected names who have straddled the world of commercials and cinema throughout their careers.
1) Answer: David O. Russell, repped out of Wondros for commercials. His features include “Silver Linings Playbook,” “The Fighter,” “Three Kings” and the upcoming “American Hustle.”
After recently announcing that it would be increasing energy prices by 9.2% in November, British Gas suffered a car crash of a PR stunt yesterday afternoon when it announced it would be holding a Q&A session with its customer services director Bert Pijls.
Well, after hearing rumblings about Alexandre Mars and Publicis parting ways, we made some calls to the holding company, which revealed that the exec is not even in the agency’s global directory at this point. So, one can deduce that the exec, who’s spent the last six years as head of mobile at the holding company as well as CEO of its mobile marketing unit, Phonevalley, is no longer on the roster. Calls to Phonevalley itself were immediately answered by an automated message saying “your call cannot be completed as dialed” so what to make of all this? Is it even in existence at this point? Who knows, but in 2001, Mars founded Phonevalley, which was eventually bought up by Publicis Groupe in 2007 and expanded globally to China, India and Singapore a year later. We’ll let you know if we find out more.
Republican Senator Ted Cruz is blocking Tom Wheeler’s nomination to be chairman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission after asking whether the Democrat would use the agency to regulate political advertising.
Mr. Wheeler’s appointment was on a Senate calendar for action this week and didn’t emerge as other nominees cleared the body.
“Yes, the senator is holding the nominee,” Sean Rushton, a spokesman for Mr. Cruz, said in an e-mail. Senators can by tradition singlehandedly stall consideration of a presidential appointee.
Everybody loves boobs, and everybody hates cancer. So it’s hard to miss with a breast cancer awareness video, especially when you employ humor.
That’s what two female advertising creatives (including a breast cancer survivor), along with 360i, Dirty Robber, Schillick and Mass Relevance, did by creating “#Mamming,” “a chance for all of us [yes, even guys] to show solidarity with the millions of women getting mammograms this Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
“What is this ‘mamming,’ you speak of?” you’re probably asking. #Mamming is “the act of laying your (clothed) boobs on a flat surface.” Boobs. On (flat) stuff. Got it? Since mammograms are an awkward procedure (that could save millions of lives through early detection), embracing that awkwardness can make it a lot easier for everyone. Solid reasoning, and the execution works well, too.
The “#Mamming” video introduces the concept with a woman casually (awkwardly) mamming during a conversation. Her friend asks her what she’s doing and she gives her a demonstration. Then the two proceed mamming around the city: at the video store, the pizzeria, in a cab, at the gym. Their friend joins up with them and, after a few failed attempts, finally nails mamming. The video ends with one of the women getting an actual mammogram. It’s a funny little video, and a clever way to promote the importance of mammograms for early detection.
So now that you know what mamming is, why don’t you give it a shot? You can enter your mamming photos, and see others’ submitted mamming photos, at thisismamming.com.
There was just one little fly in the ointment here. Mamming wasn’t on Urban Dictionary, so it kind of wasn’t a real word. But I took care of it and submitted a definition. Hopefully it gets posted soon. You’re welcome.
