Estee Lauder Readies Agency Review for 2014
Posted in: UncategorizedEstee Lauder is rethinking its agency roster as it preps for a review in 2014.
The New York-based beauty giant will run a “two-part digital media review,” inviting shops to pitch for at least one of two separate assignments with budgets around $4 million, according to a review document that Ad Age obtained. One assignment will be to oversee digital media across various brands. The other will be to support digital media optimization and analytics to drive e-commerce revenue.
Santa Monica-based consultancy Select Resources International is guiding the search process and recently sent the review brief to a handful of agencies. Upon the client’s request, SRI did not disclose the identity of the client, and it’s holding off on formally launching the review process until the first quarter of 2014. Despite the absence of the company name in the brief, a number of executives close to the matter told Ad Age that Estee Lauder is behind the search.
Shumaker Assumes CMO Post at Draftfcb…And Yes, There’s a Memo
Posted in: UncategorizedFormer Publicis USA chief marketing officer Chris Shumaker has now assumed the same title at Draftfcb, taking on CMO duties for North America. This actually marks the second tour of duty at DFCB for Shumaker, who served as global CMO at what was FCB prior to the merger in 2006.
During his career, Shumaker also spent nearly a decade at the Martin Agency, serving as SVP/director of development and working with a client roster ranging from UPS to Quizno’s. And yes, we’ve obtained a memo from sources that was sent from DFCB global CEO Carter Murray to staff regarding Shumaker’s arrival. This marks Murray’s second major hire following that of global chief strategy officer Nigel Jones and EVP/strategic planning Vita Harris earlier this month. Anyhow, see note regarding Shumaker below and after the jump.

Fast-Rising E-Commerce Could Jolt Package-Goods Giants
Posted in: UncategorizedE-commerce once may have been a minor factor for packaged-goods, but it’s fast becoming a significant market that could shift market share to smaller players and disrupt pricing and other key parts of the industry’s business model, according to a new report by Sanford C. Bernstein.
The Sept. 25 report estimates e-commerce sales have risen to 9% of category sales for health products, 5.9% for beauty care and 5.7% for pet care. Those numbers are all up substantially and, in the case of pet products, more than double levels of five years ago, according to estimates developed using Bernstein consumer surveys and proprietary programming tools.
For much of the category, e-commerce still accounts for 1% or less of sales. But Bernstein predicts online sales will reach $222 billion — or around 25% of U.S. consumer-packaged goods spending overall — within five to 10 years, said analyst Ali Dibadj.

Topps, Rooster Wax Nostalgic with Web Series for Garbage Pail Kids MiniKins
Posted in: UncategorizedRooster New York, fresh off of teaching you how to take a punch (and all their skateboard projects), have unleashed a suitably goofy trailer for their new web series promoting Topps’ Garbage Pail Kids MiniKins.
For those too young to remember, Garbage Pail Kids was a popular trading card series released in 1985, parodying the then even-more-popular Cabbage Patch Kids dolls phenomenon. Topps brought the Garbage Pail Kids back in 2012 with an all-new series. Now they’re expanding the Garbage Pail Kids into 1” MiniKins figures.
Rooster’s trailer is in the fake-outtake style, with Garbage Pail Kid Adam Bomb struggling to get through his lines, among other things. If you grew up with Garbage Pail Kids, it will probably be a welcome blast of nostalgia. If not, it should still ooze a kind of fun 80s cheese that’s hard not to appreciate. Everyone is still obsessed with the 80s, right? Isn’t that why we’re here talking about Garbage Pail Kids?
Anyway, the Garbage Pail Kids MiniKins will launch mid-October and Rooster’s web series will air at the MiniKins official YouTube page. Credits after the jump. continued…

Posted in: UncategorizedVancouver Police Department: Weightlifting, Hunting, Shaving
Posted in: UncategorizedUsing mobile devices while driving contributes to nearly a third of traffic deaths and injuries each year in Canada; however, people still don’t view texting and driving as the lethal combination that it is. New creative by DDB Canada’s Vancouver office for the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) uses humour to cut through the typical serious and somber messaging by comparing texting and driving to other equally stupid and dangerous combinations.
A series of posters and thousands of postcards are being handed out at Vancouver high schools, encouraging students to share other stupid combinations through social channels tagged with #stupidcombos. Students are also encouraged to draw stupid combinations and share them on their social channels to enter into the contest. The VPD’s social media division will be consolidating all of the entries and a committee will select their top five combinations. The five shortlisted entries will be shared on the VPD’s Facebook page and the public will be encouraged to vote for their favorite. The #stupidcombo that receives the most votes will be deemed the winner with the recipient winning a police ride-along experience.
