Cannes: No Ban for Agencies Behind Scam Ads

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) — Award shows are getting tough on scam ads, but are they being tough enough? At this point, many of the major shows have weighed in and the result is a mixed bag. While getting caught with a scam ad will earn you negative attention, it's far from certain it'll get you or your agency banned. Whether that happens depends on the particular show.

‘Hell’s Kitchen’ Finale Hot, Wins Night for Fox

MINNEAPOLIS (AdAge.com) — America's schizophrenic, binge-purge approach to its weight problem has multiple cultural manifestations, and one was clear during this Tuesday's TV ratings race, in which two-hour versions of NBC's weight loss reality show "Biggest Loser" ran up against kitchen competition "Hell's Kitchen" on Fox.

SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) — Marketers love them and Google is betting its mobile strategy on them. Those shiny new smartphones are changing the mobile-marketing game, but for one agency the iPhone has consistently performed the worst on measures of engagement when it comes to marketing to 19- to 49-year-old females.

Where Did Global Media Moguls Go to Talk Shop? China, of Course

BEIJING (AdAge.com) — China's parade through Beijing on Oct. 1 celebrating the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic was a massive display of military might. Just days later, the government switched to soft power by hosting the first World Media Summit. That the venue for the event, which featured big guns such as Rupert Murdoch and the AP's Tom Curley, was held here is bizarre, as censors working for the Communist Party maintain rigid control over what Chinese can say, read and write.

The Time to Re-Invest Is Also the Scariest Time

I've been writing a lot of checks lately to carpenters, contractors, IT technicians, painters, and audio/video specialists. That's because I made the decision back in May to renovate our offices in the midst of the recession. As I write this, construction is wrapping up, and we are moving into our new digs next week. Exciting. And scary (to spend all of that money) at the same time.

‘Helicopter Boyz’ Opens Entertaining Possibilities for Camera Projector Feature

helicopter-boyz.jpg

Nikon’s COOLPIX S1000pj does this neat, if not evidently useful, thing where you can project your photos onto a wall. To promote this feature it came up with “Helicopter Boyz,” an outdoor event at Yomiuri Land where two boys — with cameras strapped to their bodies — shake ass onstage while photos are projected behind them.
