Dick's "Your footwear destination" (2016) 1:00 (USA)

Great soundtrack to this spot featuring all kinds of feet in all kinds of shoes in all kinds of scenarios.

Dick's "Vault. Sleep. Repeat." (2016) 1:00 (USA)

Mostly wordless spot featuring Olympic hopeful and Dick’s employee Josh Dangel who, when he’s not fitting shoes for other people, is training is butt off. This is part of Dick’s “contenders” series featuring employees who are all trying to go for gold. I like how they let the visceral aspects speak louder than the words. Dick’s seems like the perfect place to work in that aspect. If you don’t have a sponsor, at least you get (I assume) a discount on gear.

Ghirardelli "Chocolate Carving" (2016) :30 (USA)

A big story told on a mini canvas for Ghirardelli chocolate minis, using VFX to tell the story of the original San Francisco treat.

Ghirardelli "Time-lapse" (2016) :30 (USA)

They got meta in this time-lapse spot and built a Ghirardelli factory out of Ghirardelli minis. Fun use of VFX here.

Contours Baby "Stroller Test-Ride" (2016) 1:47 (USA)

Since your baby can’t talk, it can’t tell you if it enjoys the stroller ride. To remedy this, Contours Baby created a life-sized replica of its storller and took adults for a ride to see what they thought of it. Cute idea.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch "Breakfast in the fast lane" (2016) :36 (USA)

They brought us, among other things, Squad Bowls. Now Cinnamon Toast Crunch is back with a new product: The Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cruiser. So you can eat on the go. In the press release we were told we could take it for a test drive. Sounded tempting until the bit about signing a waiver and wearing protective gear. That’s a long way to go for a bowl of cereal, even if it’s on the go. Still, it’s fun to see Cinnamon Toast Crunch keep trying to capitalize on millennial trends.

Sprout "Say goodbye to mom guilt" (2016) :30 (USA)

Sprout, for those who don’t know, is a 24-hour preschool TV network. So this “let’s all say goodbye to mom guilt,” message is brought to us by Sprout. There is such a disconnect between what we are seeing and that end message that it comes across as being confusing. There’s no guilt in playing video games with your son, or napping. Also the mom looks happy throughout the spot. I know for a fact there’s mom guilt but it doesn’t come from any of these scenarios. Love the message, but the spot itself feels like it’s for a completely different message.

Southwest "All I do is win" (2016) :30 (USA)

Southwest beats its chest really hard in this spot touting how many billions of dollars they’ve saved you by not charging you for checked luggage n’ stuff. Set to All I Do Is Win” by DJ Khaled (featuring T-Pain) which is where I bet the idea for this spot came from.

Super Russian Roulette "Trailer" (2016) 1:00 (USA)

Super Russian Roulette is a retro/new video game created by Batlab Electronics for the classic NES, the original 8-bit console from Nintendo. In this spot, they play up the 8-Bit nostalgia while also getting super dark and quirky.

This ad was also used to help create awareness about a Kickstarter and product launch campaign that allowed Batlab founder/game designer Andrew Reitano to fully fund the project. If you want to play you should go to www.superrussianroulette.com .

7 Eleven "Shark week" (2016) :15 (USA)

Every so often people take a down and dirty retail spot and do something fun with it. This is one of those times.

7 Eleven "Pizza" (2016) :15 (USA)

This spot was crying out for the people say “that’s yuuuuuge.” Missed opportunity in my humble opinion. I like the way they are messing with the letter box.

7 Eleven "Cheese burger" (2016) :15 (USA)

There are now cheese burgers at 7 eleven and that’s a yuuuge deal.

Publicis Seattle crates new visual identity for the 2018 Special Olympics

Publicis Seattle unveiled the new visual identity for the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games. The agency was tapped as the sole agency to create the identity and corresponding tagline – Rise With Us. The games will be held in Seattle in 2018. The mark took its cue from the Olympic torch shape, but it also represents the water around Seattle as well as the sweat and tears from the athletes, family, and volunteers alike. The colors invoke the water surrounding the area.

Airbnb "Don't go to Paris. Live There." (2016) :30 (USA)

Don’t be a tourista in Paris. Live in Paris as a local. Just know they will still hate you for not being able to speak the language.

Airbnb Don't Go To Tokyo. Live There. (2016) :30 (USA)

Airbnb Don't Go To Tokyo. Live There. (2016) :30 (USA)
Don’t go there. Live there. Live in Tokyo. Even if it’s only for a night.

Airbnb "Don't go to L.A. Live There." (2016) :30 (USA)

Don’t go to L.A. Live there. And then do all the stuff tourists do. Because as someone who’s lived here for six years now, they picked some really obvious stuff to do.

UnitedHealthcare "Pool vault" (2016) :50 (USA)

Oh yay, another Dumb Husband spot. They resonate with me almost as much as the Dumb Dad spot. Men, what are you going to do with them. Even though they’re grown ups who worked their asses off to help pay for that suburban home with swimming pool, at the end of the day they’re still just dumb kids doing dumb things, amirite? All their wives can do is put up wth their stupidity and keep the local ER on speed dial. I will never understand why brands think it’s a good idea to alienate half their audience by making fun of them, especially with gender stereotypes no less, but go ahead and add UnitedHealthcare to that pile of brands who don’t realize it’s 2016.

Fiat "Free like a bird" (2016) 1:20 (USA)

We all want to be as free as the birds, but maybe the birds wanna be as free as us. Fiat 124 Spyder. Man, an eagle and a SONY action cam are pretty awesome, but I have to say, I kinda want that Spyder. Like, now.

Burt's Bees "Silence" (2016) 3:20 (USA)

Mandy Harvey was singing when she was four. But she had problems with her hearing. And when she was 21, she lost her hearing all together. She didn’t let the devastation destroy her life. Instead, she taught herself how to sing from the vibration of the notes coming from the instruments around her. She doesn’t sing to the melody, but to the feeling of the notes.
Ironically, when she used to have fear of singing in front of others, now that she’s lost her hearing, the fear has gone, too. Can’t get much more inspiring than Mandy’s story. This is part of Burt’s Bees’ #LoveYourNature campaign.

Burt's Bees "Different" (2016) 2:09 (USA)

Inspiring content for Burt’s Bees, starring Diandra Forrest, who grew up with albinism. She didn’t fit in growing up, and had to deal with insecurity until she finally started embracing it. And she went from object of ridicule to model who embraces standing out. I love her story and I think she’s beautiful. Great content as part of Burt’s Bees’ #LoveYourNature campaign.
