GameStop "Goat" (2016) 1:00 (USA)

The thrill of the goat is gone. So you can trade it in. Except, we’re not talking about goats here, we’re talking about video games. It’s very strange that a farmer is in GameStop, I must be honest. But I applaud them for not making the goats scream as that’s been done.

GameStop "Hole in the wall" (2016) :30 (USA)

There’s a double-sided poster available at GameStop. Oh, imagine the unintentional fun you could have when you put it up, say, to cover a hole in the wall. Ridiculous fun to get out what is essentially a small promotion at the retail level.

Tequila Avión – Yo / Elevado (2016) 1:45 (USA)

Tequila Avión - Yo / Elevado (2016) 1:45 (USA)
If you don’t have the dream, you don’t fly. Dream with fire. I dreamed I did tequila with the gods. Uh, whut? I wanted to like this ad, but there were so many ideas crammed in to it. Initially I thought they were talking about dreams as in dreaming big and likening that to the way they made Avión which would have been one idea. But then we’re off on this tangent about high elevation and drinking with gods and I kinda lost the plot because it reminded me of Matthew Mcconaughey rambling, and then I thought maybe someone spiked my tequila with something because the voice over was being repeated over some kind of walkie talkie at some point and then I was climbing up a big hill but then all of a sudden I was leaving da club. Then I started thinking– if this is an ad for tequila, should they really be showing somebody driving this much? Also, since when are we “doing,” tequila like it was ayahuasca?

Help Kenya Not Kanye (2016) case study (USA)

Gabriel Ferrer, Alma’s senior copywriter, was minding his won business roaming twitter one day when he saw one of Kanye’s epic rants. In this particular one, Kanye was complaining about being “broke”.

As if. Gabriel Ferrer realized that as much as he loved Kanye’s music, he couldn’t agree with this and launched “Help Kenya not Kanye” together with Crowdrise. Moving the social media conversation from Kanye’s debt to opportunities to do some good in Kenya at the website HelpKenyaNotKanye.com. Snarktastic move, that actually raised money for schools in Kenya too, I love this idea. Also, can we please get an award for case studies already? This one is rapping the case study and I love that too.

Johnsonville "Jeff and his forest friends" (2016) 1:00 (USA)

Jeff is an employee at Johnsonville and because Johnsonville does everything there, including commercials. In this case, Jess enjoys the forest with his talking animals who are very keen to know more about Johnsonville. He’s all too keen to respond. When an inquisitive wolf asked how come he knows how to talk to animals he says “books,” and that gets a round of laughter form the animal forest. Commercials made the Johnsonville way are cute. If you strip away the forest creatures and read this on paper though, it would be nothing but 50 seconds of product. So let that be a lesson– you can say anything and peoplpe will listen just as long as it comes from a talking animal.

Johnsonville "Responsibilities" (2016) :30 (USA)

Johnsonville is a family-owned company and the people are responsible for everything, including the commercials. This formulaic campaign is redeemed somewhat by the aw-shucks Midwestern sensibilities of the employees. But make no mistake, it’s still a formula. But hey, at least it gets out the word that they are a family owned company.

Johnsonville "Regular speed chase by Brett" (2016) 1:00 (USA)

In Brett’s Johnsonville commercial, there’s a car chase with all kinds of cars. But they are all trying to chase down the Johnsonville semi. So the truck drivers realized they left the grill on again and there’s nothing to do but stop and feed everyone. So everybody ends up eating Johnsonville Brats. Oh, and there’s an explosion. Commercials mae my Johnsonville employees are made the Johnsonville way. Have to say I’m way more intrigued by Brett letting it slip that they have grills on their semis.
They have grills on their trucks.
This is a waaaaaaaaaay bigger idea.

Motorola "06.09.16" (2016) :45 (USA)

It says something about the current times that we’re nostalgic for 2006! Or maybe Motorola just wants us to be? I don’t know. The music is as annoying as it was a decade ago, and thank god when I worked on the Razr at that time, (at my very first agency, sigh) we didn’t actually use that music in our spots. I have no idea why I should care about a teaser spot that will most likely be a misdirect as they aren’t “bringing back,” something pre iPhone but obviously will be something else. But then again, I’m can’t stand nostalgia. Especially when it involves high school emo kids.

Firehouse Subs "Ready to roll" (2016) :30 (USA)

A firefighter’s duty demands a degree of readiness. And a really long pole to slide down. Sure your pants may not be connected to your shoes like a firefighter, but that doesn’t mean you can’t eat like one. The hero of all subs indeed. This kind of takes a page from Old Spice with the visual nuttiness, but it’s not thrown in with sight gags that make it nutty for the sake of being nutty, though.

Firehouse Subs "Innovation" (2016) :30 (USA)

Let’s celebrate all manner of innovation that has made our life better like the crescent wrench and the uh, labradoodle? And steam! Because steam makes turkey and cheddar cheese extra yummy when it’s steamed. Give a man meat and he can make you a sandwich, but if you give him a steamer he’s gonna make one hell of a tasty sub fit for a firefighter. Silliness abounds, yes. But now I’m hungry. Well played, Firehouse Subs.

Firehouse Subs "Bells" (2016) :20 (USA)

Being a good firefighter takes– bells. With an “E.” Not an “A.” Sure, your mind wants to stay in the gutter and embrace 20 seconds of dick joke, but don’t do it. You’re better than that! Okay, maybe you’re not. Still even if you don’t possess manly firefighter bells, you can still eat like a firefighter at Firehouse Subs.

Chrysler "German" (2016) :30 (USA)

Funnyman Jim Gaffigan shows them rich people a thing or two while spending some “quality time” with his son in this spot for the all new Chrysler Pacifica. Funny stuff. For once Dad is funny without being the butt of everyone’s jokes. Too bad the vehicle is so pedestrian, though.

Chrysler "Beat some bleep" (2016) :30 (USA)

Jim Gaffigan swears (but it’s beeped) in this spot in which he likes to show his kids the meaning and value of competition and kicking the butts of old retired people. So silly.

Chrysler "Neighborhood Watch" (2016) :30 (USA)

Jim Gaffigan puffs himself up while simultaneously getting caught out by his wife in this silly spot for Chrysler Pacifica. As far as cars go…Dad Brand it ain’t. In fact, Dad Brand sounds like an insult.

Kia Hamster "Soul" (2016) 1:48 (USA)

I have no idea why The Kia Hamsters are playing was it widely associated with the brutally dark southern thriller Deliverance, or why the song keeps growing across all genres going from Nathaniel Rateliff to a sitar player, but happiness aplenty aside all I can think of when I heard that song is the creepy dueling banjo scene and the scene where the hillbilly rapes Ned Beatty and makes him squeal like a pig, so yeah..mighta chosen a different song there.

Bejeweled Stars "Shiny place" (2016) :30 (USA)

A curling enthusiast gets denied the chance to watch his beloved sport and retreats to his “shiny place,” i.e. playing the mobile game Bejeweled Stars. In it he imagines putting the wifey and dog in place while he rides atop a giant curling stone.

New York Lottery "Dog Wedding" (2016) :30 (USA)

New York Lotto’s Quick Draw is a fun way to get drawn together unlike attending a dog wedding where the wedding cake is made from dog food. Because it’s a dog wedding.

New York Lotto "Corporate Retreat" (2016) :30 (USA)

The New York Lotto’s Quick Draw is a fun was to draw people together unlike a corporate retreat gone wrong. I’m surprised they didn’t say Gayle, from accounting.” Because the joke is always someone from accounting, amirite?

Carpet One – Big Box Voice – (2016) :30 (USA)

Carpet One - Big Box Voice - (2016) :30 (USA)
This is a radio ad on TV. And by that I mean, this idea would work nicely on radio, and really doesn’t need TV visuals, other than to show images of the store. Don’t have to feel bad though, even the famous classic Volkswagen snow plow commercial was basically a billboard idea that they put on TV. Not everything needs to be on TV, kids.

John McAfee "Exit Politics" (2016) 5:29 (USA)
