DOJO and John Legend Bring the Music

To repeat the popular Mark Twain misquote, “Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated.”

We’re not sure why San Francisco’s DOJO didn’t respond to any of our requests for information on last month’s rumor that it would soon be closing its doors or why its listed phone number stopped working, but the agency certainly appears to be operating normally: today we received two new campaigns for client Sound United’s audio brands Definitive Technology and Polk Audio.

We Hear: DOJO San Francisco Closing Shop

We’ve received several tips over the past week or so about San Francisco agency DOJO.

First, we heard that former GS&P account lead Marty Wenzell, who joined DOJO  in July 2012 and most recently held the president/MD title, was out. Then we heard that the agency — founded in 2009 by veterans of SF shop Fancy — would cease to exist at the end of this month.

Way back in January, we did confirm that Chris Masse, the DOJO art director turned creative director, had departed.

We didn’t hear much more from the shop until last week, when we got our first tips about Wenzell. We reached out to the agency’s contact email but received no response — and yesterday the listed phone number stopped working.

Masse Out at DOJO

chrismasseIn case you don’t know the name Chris Masse, he was employee #1 at San Francisco-based shop DOJO, originally joining as art director in 2009 before moving up the ranks to creative director at the agency. Well, now it appears that he’s on the freelance circuit as a CD/AD, working on several campaigns for Logitech, LG and Activision among other DOJO clients. Prior to joining DOJO, Masse worked in a similar role at the likes of Fancy with the former’s agency founders, Geoff Edwards and Mauro Alencar.
