Care to Find Out Which of Your Facebook Friends Hate You?

hateface

Last month, we brought you news of Rather, the revamped version of the brilliant and much-needed unbaby.me, co-created by Chris Baker. Rather is a great tool that lets you replace things you don’t want to see in your social media feeds — be it babies, sports, religion or the Kardashians — with things you do want to see, like cats. Because everyone wants to see pictures of cats. Baker was also responsible for “Charity Bribes” and a welcome attempt to send M. Night Shyamalan back to film school. Now, Baker has a new project, dubbed Hate With Friends.

Created in partnership with Mike Lacher and Tiger Wang, Hate With Friends allows you to select which of your Facebook friends you hate. According to the parties involved, “Seemed surprising that the internet hadn’t shelled out the opposite version of bangwithfriends, so we did.” Anyway, if they also hate you, both parties will be notified. You can kind of think of it as the opposite of Bang With Friends (apparently now renamed Down), although I suppose there are some circumstances where it’s not the opposite.

We’re not sure how useful Hate With Friends will be for people, or what happens once both parties have confirmed that they hate each other. A simple unfriending? Words With Friends grudge match? A duel at sundown? A titty twister? I imagine it will mostly be used as a joke, amongst friends who do not hate each other, although I’m sure there’s plenty of mutual hate going around on Facebook, seeing as how Facebook has all but destroyed the meaning of the term “friend.” If you’d like to find out if you have any Facebook frenemies, head on over to Hate With Friends. Let us know how it goes in the comments section.

Baker & Co. Revamp ‘Unbaby’ Tool, Launch ‘Rather’

rather

It’s been 15 months since Chris Baker, Peter Marquis and Yvonne Cheng launched their Chrome tool dubbed “Unbaby,” which lets those who’ve had enough of seeing their friends’ baby pics on their Facebook feeds replace those images with “awesome stuff.” Now, the parties have improved upon the aforementioned service with a new Chrome-friendly platform dubbed Rather. According to Baker, the former BBDO NY/Google Creative Lab writer and co-mastermind of “Charity Bribes,” “M Night School,” etc, the group has now retooled unbaby.me into a full-featured social filtering app, so now it’s not just the poor babies that will feel singled out. We’re just starting to give it a whirl but already appreciate the much broader, streamlined service. We’re sure a few of you will agree, so why not give it a whirl.

Pereira & O’Dell Asks, ‘Where in the World is Mike Cory?’ for Skype

San Francisco-based shop Pereira & O’Dell switch gears from their tearjerking “Stay Together” campaign with their latest spot for Skype, “Rerouted: A Skype Travel Challenge.”

For the spot, Pereira & O’Dell chose a travel blogger, Mike Cory, who they gave the impression was recruited for a travel blog. Instead, on November 12th, they dropped him off at Instanbul without a clue as to where his next destination will be. To get home, he will be given a series of clues that he must piece together along with a Skype audience. His goal is to be home for Thanksgiving in an attempt to fulfill a lame “Turkey to Turkey Day” pun. Mike is powered only by Surface Pro 2, Windows 8.1, Skype, and the help of his audience. Without an engaged audience Mike could, presumably (but come on, not really), end up lost somewhere. It’s an interesting approach that should appeal to geography buffs the world over. Think of it like a real-life “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego,” but without all the stolen cultural artifacts and punily-named villains.

If you’d like to become part of the “Rerouted” experience, you follow Mikes progress at @SkypeMoments or Skype him directly at mike.corey8. Check out the official rules at skypererouted.com and help Mike crack the clues via Skype, Facebook, or Twitter with the hashtag  #reroutedclue. Credits after the jump.

And Now, Your Midday Time-Killer: ‘Movie Meets Movie’

Our old pal Chris Baker, the former BBDO New York copywriter, Google Creative Lab alum and current BuzzFeed CD, is back with yet another fun side project dubbed “Movie Meets Movie.”  The man who’s helped create a variety of interesting, amusing efforts over the years including “Unbaby Me” and  “M Night School” is now enticing the film geek in all of us to head to the MMM site, read and take part in creating the ideal movie equation.

As Baker and his partner on the project, Jeanelle Mak, explain, “The X meets Y formula, as it turns out, is a succinct, and almost more interesting way to quickly know what a movie is about, and when you come up with a perfect equation, one that embodies the movie and shows off your movie knowledge, you should get credit for it. That’s why we’re here.” There are plenty of submissions already posted on the site, and you can add your own “deconstruction” by simply owning a Facebook account. Who’s to say this won’t distract us the rest of the day as it seems to be constantly updating.
